Two small things, first the easiest. I cant get to this website on my Iphone. In range of G3, max connection, it just refuses to load the FFXI main forum page (clicked forum from the main page, and then FFXI General). It might load it eventually, but i dont feel keeping my iphone on the same page for probably 10 minutes so it loads will do me a lot of good. Is there an ad or something messing up the loadtimes? I have no problem with the new skin, i dont like it, sure, but it will simply take some getting used to. However, there's something going on there at the moment that doesnt let me get near right now. A problem i didnt have before in the slightest.

Second, a little more problematic. You mention at the top that you guys are dropping IE6 support.

Is there a good reason for this? Because as it stands now, atleast half the modern world is still using IE6. Most companies still have IE6, as well as just about every university and school. It might be "unsafe" or "a pain to code", but it's literally the only way a lot of us can view this website. Would you guys reconsidder atleast keeping the support for this? I understand the whole moving on to modern things, thing. But unless you're ready to convince most universities and the likes to move on too, you might lose a lot of people who can view the website.

Thanks >.>;

I asked a few staff at ZAM to try loading the front pages on their phone. They aren't noticing any slowdowns associated with load times. Ads load in iframes so they do not impede the loading of a page in case the ad servers are slow/down. It may be an overloaded 3G node or something. I don't see any slowdowns on my G1 Android phone, either.

With the new layouts we did a lot of work to make sure IE6 worked. We've been watching the stats for some time and IE6 is now responsible for less than 2% of our readers. Given the time required and the age of the browser to maintain support, we decided to drop it. This doesn't mean that IE6 support is being removed from the site. That would be foolish. It just means that if a something new is added to any of the sites that requires special coding for IE6 only, we won't be doing it. Until then, everything should be working fine with IE6. I imagine for quite some time to come you won't see any major issues with IE6 on our sites.

If by "at least half the modern world" you mean between 9% and 19%, depending on what site you go to. I have a hard time believing that the forum for a multi-MMO information website would have a large stock of people using such an antiquated browser. IE6 is the kind of browser that my grandma uses when she goes online twice a month on her dial-up connection.

iPhone works again. Probably just a glitch or bad ad that took forever to load. Kinda weird, but i guess it happens sometimes.

As for the IE6 thing. Only noticed that posting from one of the University comps (because my iPhone wouldnt load it, lol). Hearing what Niz said, it will still be accessable under an old browser, not blocked out completely somehow. So i'll be happy. Only really use those comps when i have a spare hour and dont have a chance to go home, so it's not a terrible ordeal, but will still be a bit troublesome.

Still, 2%, i never would have guessed with all the old junk i run into at the library and where else not, lol. Thanks for soothing this old elf's worries.
