FFXIV link?Follow

With the new FFXI skin, we've lost the link to the FFXIV forums. Is there a way to reintroduce it, possibly under "More FFXI" tab?

If you click the forum link twice you can get to the forum.html page that lists all the forums.

I officially have no comment on double clicking hyperlinks.

It's still bothersome as an option to go to FFXIV's forums when there used to be an easy and quick link on the FFXI skin itself.
#4REDACTED, Posted: Apr 19 2010 at 9:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Unfortunately, having the link from the FFXI skin led a number of people to the conclusion that the FFXIV forum was just an extension of the FFXI boards instead of a distinct forum for a different game. I'm not saying that's why it was removed, but I can't say that I'm disappointed that it was. If you're browsing the FFXI boards and you want to check out what's going on in the LOTRO boards, for example, you have to navigate a certain way. Now you have to do the same thing for FFXIV.

I check the WoW forums often, and there's no link for it on the FFXI, so I just change the forum number to 21. Unfortunately, I can not even do that for FFXIV, since the link is not done the same way, thus why the link was very useful.

Not to mention that, you know, it's part of the Final Fantasy genre....

Did I seriously forgot to mention that? Smiley: blush
#8REDACTED, Posted: Apr 19 2010 at 9:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I agree it's part of the genre just like I'm sure you agree it's a separate game. I never really spend a whole lot of time on the EQ boards but I'd be curious to know whether or not there was a link to the EQ2 boards there before the skin change.

FFXIV's announcement isn't the first time an MMO developer has prepared to release (or has released) a second game within the same genre, but they don't get lumped together here. Separate game, separate forum, which makes sense...I've talked to a lot of people who played FFXI years ago and are excited about giving FFXIV a try. They're not all that interested in being treated as interlopers within the FFXI community, nor do I blame them.
I probably wouldn't be complaining if there had never been a link, but there was one until they changed the skin to this thing. Like WoW, FFXIV is a different game, but unlinke WoW, FFXIV's forums can not be accessed by a simple forum number changing, which makes it WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more annoying since you have to go through the whole forum list to get it. Also, it's the only forum I know of that you can not simply change the "forum=" number (or letters, for Danalog) to access.

If there's not, there probably should be, IMO.

Meh, it's pretty much the same community.

Putting the link there was a questionable decision in the first place.

An alternative to relying on the site navigation options might be to have a tab for FFXIV in your browser. I have three tabs for ZAM forums open at any given time and still have ample room for non-ZAM related pages to get their own tab as well. It's quick, easy, and Firefox does a nice job of saving them for me so I don't have to keep re-opening them every time I launch the browser. Very convenient and guaranteed to produce results.

Yet another reason for a custom sidebar (or if you're so intent on forcing the topbar on us, a "Custom Links" dropdown) where the user can specify maybe five onsite links for quick access.

You could even make it a Premium feature!

We wrote a lot of code to do just that a few years ago. Unfortunately because every site had it's own template and no two sites really shared any CSS, we couldn't move forward. There are other issues as well. It is something we'd like to do in the future. I'm not sure when, though.

All the layout changes were a big step forward in paving the way to make this a reality, though.

Also, you can change forum=10 to game=268 to get to ffxiv from ffxi forums. I can't believe I remember that without having to look it up.
