However, if I view my wiki using https, the tooltips don't work. Although Jerek says, "Yes. The default code we list should automatically do HTTP or HTTPS protocol based on the current page, but you can also specify HTTPS in the URL to the script if you like.", I have been unable to get them to work.

I had the same problem with Magelo tooltips. It seems when they fixed their website to use https, now their tooltips work when my site is viewed with https (they don't work with http).

So, it appears the whole issue can be fixed if Allakaham would enable https. In 2017, it really is pretty much a must for websites.

Any estimate when Allakaham will start using https?

I need to get me a free ssl cert some where so I can test it out locally on my dev machine. I don't have access to the live site.

I want to make sure that http and https both works. I'm looking at the code right in the javascript that all tooltips pulls from. It does have an entry for https in there but apparently it isn't working like it's supposed to.

You can get a free SSL certificate from https://letsencrypt.org/

The only downside is you have to renew it every 90 days. Some web hosts will provide you with a free Let's Encrypt certificate, which I believe auto-renews (see your host).

Some other hosts provide a free SSL certificate just for hosting with them, sometimes only with the "Business" package or above, though.

My website, https://everquest.fanra.info has free SSL just by using CloudFlare as my CDN. I have the free CloudFlare service, so I get both a free CDN and the use of a free SSL certificate.

Let me know if I can do anything to help. Contact me directly at fanra@fanra.info.

Thanks.

Something to also consider is that search engines place http lower than https in search listings. Google imposes a penalty for a non-encrypted site in their listings.

I got a reply back that this is something they'll need to discuss after they move the allakhazam platform to their new provider. Some code changes will need to happen so testing and such will need to happen as well. It will need to work with advertisements as well.

I just spoke with one of the ZAM developers that helped track down why the tooltip wasn't working on SSL enabled sites (Thanks Jerek!). Hopefully we should get this fixed soon.

I spoke about this briefly with ZAM last night in a meeting. It's still on the TODO list. I now have access to the back end so I can make changes whenever but I have to learn how to do everything first. The way the site is set up is not straight forward like a normal LAMP server would be set up. It's done through docker containers, pods and so forth so it's not as easy as dropping in a certbot for example to give certs where we need it. The CDN where the tooltip script is has the cert but we also need to have a cert at the origin as well and that's where the issue is. We'll get it figured out hopefully soon.

I've noticed that the login is secure at https://secure.zam.com/login.html?action=login.

everquest.allkhazam.com and the tooltips are still insecure with no SSL yet.

Any word on how it is going? Still waiting after a year and a half :).

Thanks.

It has been discussed as recent as over the weekend. I don't know when this will be addressed but I'll keep pushing for it.

It's been two and a half years now since I asked if SSL could be done.

Meanwhile, Google and other search engines have downgraded site listings for not using SSL for five years now and browsers warn people that log in that the connection is insecure.

Really, having a lower SEO by not using SSL is hurting ZAM's bottom line. It's nearing the end of 2019 and you guys are still stuck in 2014.

I know you have a tough time getting things done, as money is tight, but please see if this can be done.

Deploying certs via a cluster isn't something I've played with so I reached out to our regular engineers to see if they could work on it. They did respond so we'll see what happens. *keeping fingers crossed*
