Vanguard....?Follow

#1 Jun 25 2007 at 4:32 AM Rating: Decent
Hey guys!

I'm sure a number of you are playing Vanguard at the moment. Quite frankly at the moment, website support for the game is abysmal and I know Sigil weren't happy with you (Allakhazam) supporting the game as you advertised gold sellers on ur site BUT... seeing as SOE have just acquired Vanguard I was wondering (well more like a cross between pleading and hoping) that Allakhazam might pursue the game again and get some quality support up for VG?

/plead! :)

Thanks guys! Will be watching this thread with interest.

This is quite possibly one of the most uninformed posts I've ever read on this site.

A) SoE acquired Vanguard long before it was ever released.
B) This site has never condoned advertising of RMT activities.
C) http://www.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=80

Oh, ok :?

Sigil ran VG until a few weeks ago when SOE totally took over the game and I've definitely noticed gold seller adverts on the site in my EQ days, I clearly didn't get the reason why Alla haven't supported VG correct.

But thanks for pointing me to the thread.

/sigh

I don't like to advertise other sites, but try Ten Ton Hammer for Vanguard infos, if you haven't already. Compared to the support for most games at Alla's, they blow, but compared to the other info sites out there for VG they're my favorite.

The reason you may have seen gold ads on our site before is we were previously using Google for ads and they let them sneak in on occasion. Whenever that happened as long as someone notified us we had the ad blocked soon after. I believe that we use a different ad system now and you should never see a gold seller ad here. If you do, take a screenshot and post it here ASAP so we can pull it.

Pikko's right. That is why you don't see google ads on the sites here. It's next to impossible to control which ads display and which don't.

Plus google ads just use whats on the page in question to try to deliver targeted ads. So any mention of gold/gil/plat whatever and/or a game name anywhere on the page will bring up RMT ads.

Also, just to add, if you ever see a forum post advertising gold selling or powerleveling post it here pm the feedback forum and it will be removed when we see it. Though I doubt you were talking about those in your first post... but still never hurts to throw that in Smiley: lol

I personally have banned thousands of gold/gil/plat sellers from our forums. Any gold/gil/plat ads that do show up on the site are removed immidiatly after they are brought to our attention. You will note that there were NEVER any purposeful gold/gil/plat seller ads on the site. To claim otherwise is quite frankly rather insulting.

From browsing other sites that support Vanguard, I've noticed that there is a pretty common misconception out there that Alla supports gold-sellers. I do my best to convince folks otherwise, and I think you should probably make me a guru for my efforts.

There's really only one reason we haven't done a vanguard site.

We have not ever felt that the game will have a large enough player base to make the time and effort it will take to build a good site worth it.

The game isn't very good, it's not compelling to a wide variety of users. Without a large user base, we're never going to generate the kind of traffic we need to make the programming time worth it.

SOE buying Vanguard may have an effect on the main problem here - the game not being very good. But then again, look at their handling of Star Wars.

If we feel that making a Vanguard site will more than pay for itself, then we'll make one. In the mean time, I'd highly suggest that you play a game that's actually fun, and works. Wow, eq2, ffxi, etc.

That's an awfully bold and unprofessional way to say things, Illia. Whether or not a game is "good" is totally subjective. I find Vanguard to be the funnest game out there, and it has way more potential than any other competitor. I understand Sigil and the site have/had mutual boners for eachother, but that's not the sort of incendiary rhetoric I expected.

It's totally fair to say the game doesn't have a large enough population to justify it's own site here, but to go on about how bad of a game it is just reeks of inexperience with the title and butthurt. The thing hurting Vanguard is the low population and the type of vitriol displayed in your post, from folks who quite frankly can't be playing the same game as I am.

If this wasn't the feedback forum I'd intimate that you should go copulate with yourself, but in more profane terms.

And I'm done sticking up for you, Allakhazam.com. That's right, I'm breaking up with you.

I have an idea... let's all ditch WoW, FFXI, EQ2, LotR:O and go play Phantasy Star Universe...

In my opinion, my statement "isn't very good" isn't particularily bold or provocative. It is negative, as is my opinion of the game. It's certainly much nicer language to describe the game than I'd use in conversation. Though I detest marketing crap, and would rather people express their opinions naturally. Even if that does mean you'd rather tell me to **** off rather than copulate Smiley: grin

If I believed that writing a detailed review of my negative opinion would benefit anyone, I'd expand upon the 3 word review above. I'm glad you find something to enjoy in it.

For allakhazam.com, it remains that a game with at best a niche appeal isn't likely to make writing a site for it into a profitable venture.

FYI - SOE had publishing rights to VG. They helped cover the cost of development and lent Sigil some devs after Microsoft pulled out. Basically they housed the servers and provided csr. Sigil was still in control of content and development.

The game had quite a horrible launch and McQuaid and Sigil sold the game completely to SOE, that happened a couple weeks ago.

As for Allakhazam and RMT, rumours and slander. As mentioned Kao has banned, nuked and aggressively tackled RMT spammers in a way that leaves no doubt to this.

As for a VG:SoH site, well for a game with a failing subscription base and lackluster sales figures does it really make sense for Zam to waste finite resources on it or else focus on successful markets like WoW, Lotro, EQ1&2, FFXI etc. ?
