Cheat/Exploit post- probable keyloggerFollow

#1 Jun 17 2007 at 11:25 AM Rating: Excellent
This post directs you to a webpage that the OP claims is a link to break into your character info, and modify it however you choose. When the link is highlighted, it's clear the website URL is not what is displayed in the post. Besides cheating being clearly against the ToS, it's unethical and most likely leads to a keylogger site. Kill it, please? Smiley: flowers

Furthermore, five people (three in the thread, Wondrous and me) saw the post and presumably rated it down.

Is someone rating it up? Beause it isn't sub-default yet.

It takes a while to get somethign sub default because of the double initial rateings. 2 more rates would have done the trick. but now hes banned. Again.

How many 'Awful' ratings does it take to send a 'Decent' post to 'Sub-default'?

And if we need that many people to do it, what's the point? By the time enough people have rated it down, enough people will have seen the link and I bet you at least one person fell for the fake URL.

A 'Report poster' button is looking more and more useful. The abuse wouldn't be worse than the abuse of the karma system, perhaps, with some clear-cut rules laid out, it would be abused less.

After all, reporting someone to an admin isn't exactly anonymous.

It takes 7 1.00 rateings to send a 3.00 base karma post sub default. It used to be less than that, but it made the system much easier to abuse. you can blame FFXI for that one mostly.

There is a report post button. its called PM Kao. Works every time.

So it's when posts are below 1.50, not just at 1.50?

7 is too high. To be honest, I've never really sat down and tuned the number of ratings a post needs to recieve before it goes poof.

So, I'm doing a new revision of the forums at the moment, and as a part of this revision, the rating system is getting an overhaul. Now when you rate a post, we'll be able to see what the last ratings on that post were and if everyone (except the poster) all agree that it's trash, it'll go disappear on the 4th rating.

(Ratings get progressivly stronger, the more of the same one is applied in order)

I just ran a (probably incorrect) test of this in a spreadsheet (came out with each one is ~1.278x stronger than the previous) and noticed that it chokes on four consecutive Excellents for someone at 3.00 (the post's rating is 5.25 at that point).

Am I right in assuming that it's not just a straightforward "each consecutive rate of type N is (some number) times stronger than the previous one" system?

The math is different for up versus down, and the new layout isn't live yet. I've got quite a few changes to merge in still.
