Buy from vendor Price RangesFollow

I keep hoping that the items database in Alla would one day add the amount (or range of amounts) that NPCs will pay for a given item. OR...That the NPC data base would include this information. Which ever is easier. I think this info would greatly help the game.

What game are you talking about?

FFXI has a setup in place to do this, we just don't have the info to put in.

Very sorry, Definately FFXI. I take your post to imply that this info is coming someday? /em crosses fingers ;-) If so, <sweets>. Also, Pikko, thanks for the gardening site (I can not stress this thank you enough) and I miss your old avatars...Big BSG fan myself ^^

Well it's coming as soon as we can find out what it is... I guess I could go in game and try to sell various things but of course that gets complicated lol.

If I had time to actually log on to the game, I'd attempt the following...but anyway:

Perhaps someone, out of the kindness of their heart, could attempt to organize a coordinated effort by (at least one) newly created, zero fame mule(s) to accept goods by delivery box from willing aides on their server.

The gil acquired from this effort could be considered a tradeoff for the additional character expense + time spent ingame acquiring and logging the information. (Oh noes, RMT!)

Of course, a master checklist would have to be maintained, showing what items had been traded and which donations were still needed.

There are a few issues, of course. Rare/Ex items would be more challenging to acquire, if at all possible. Plus, while I'd be willing to temporarily donate, say, Leaping Boots to an internationally known and trustaruworthy person like Pikko...if ImperialNinja were running the show, no way.

Keep in mind that once you have the item, you don't have to actually sell it - just hit up NPCs, pick it once so it shows the price, and then move on to the next NPC.

(Remember, it takes two confirmations to sell an item - one to see the price, and again to make sure you actually want to sell it for that price.)

Oh, I know. But that requires a level of selfless dedication I don't trust to find in most players, and certainly wouldn't be capable of offering myself. "What's that? You want me to return your iron ore? Okay. You're 889th in line to receive your item back, just as soon as the first 888 people clear their delivery boxes -- 8 at a time."

And this ignores the fact that, keeping a mule at zero fame (and therefore minus a mog safe expansion), your best option for storage is 40 water jugs: giving a total of 10 mog safe + 80 storage + 30 inventory for 120 slots total.

Promising to return all donated items would result in a horrendous backlog to return, and would either require a strong coordinated effort by those making temporary donations to hand the item over at a predetermined time and place (to be returned immediately), or a larger number of people participating with zero fame mules.

Of course, if people really wanted to help with more specialized items, they could make their own zero fame mules, mail items to themselves, then report the results to a central collection resource. While I know my wife would trust me to check the price on her Noble's Tunic; I wouldn't expect other people to feel the same.

I don't necessarily have the free time to do something like this, but God knows I'd be willing to do it otherwise.

Seriously... I have enough of a problem accepting gifts from fellow LS members. It just feels wrong to me somehow, accepting something that I didn't earn.

/shrug

As evidenced by a recent 5-page thread over on the main FFxi forum, different strokes for different folks seems to be the mantra of many in the FFxi community.

If you take on a massive project like this, more power to you. Run it anyway you want. I know if I were to run it, I'd largely ignore the critics and thank the participants. But if you'd like to debate the matter further, please feel free to PM me. This hardly seems the appropriate forum. ~.^

Not a problem. This is the appropriate place to ask for things like this.

While I welcome any suggestions and contributions to our site, however big or small, the main issue I see really for this is time:cost effectiveness.

At the current time we have 8,995 items in our db. Take out a few hundred which would be key items so say around 8,500 items.

To map the sell price of those would take a tremendous effort. And while I am more than willing to work on this I'm currently occupied much of the time improving a few of our sections, mainly Assaults.

It's something to keep in my mind so hopefully we can work something out down the line sometime.

It would be really awsome if this info turned up. I intend to start posting the info I know under the items respectively. That will help, and if al alot of people did so, maybe we could accumulate the knowledge slowly over time. Im not sure how much "accuracy" can be counted on from many sources, but it would be fairly useful. One other question, which probably reveals my Noobness, Do all vendors (not guilds obviously) buy at the same price assuming fame is constant? For example, if you have a sandy mule with no fame and a windy mule with no fame, does item A sell to respective vendors at the same price?

Anyway, As I learn new sell prices (at 0 fame) I will try to remember to post it under the items. I think that is the best I can do to help.

^^

Better yet you can keep track of all the prices you take down and email it to ffxiteam @ zam.com

I'll add in the prices.

Will do as soon as I have a reasonable number of items. Will ask my LS to do the same when possible ^^
