I would perfer to keep images out of the sigs. Keep things less flashy because I am easily distracted.

Hmm although the mock ups look alright layout-wise they look too fragmented. Maybe something like -

Would make it look a bit more uniform.

My banners revised, based on further suggestions.

Added: Linkshell
Changed: Main Job Only, Main Craft Only

http://tinypic.com/iog3nk

Illia did say that the info will update automatically based on your character profile, so it would be feasable to put "ZM 5-1, PM 2-5, ect." in the line reserved for your Title if you choose to do so.

EDIT: These are just the work of a bored graphic artist, and do not reflect what Illia will design.

EDIT 2: New banner image.

Looks great! I just don't like how the server name and LS name are just kinda. . .floating out in the open. :(

(Cut and pasted from the other thread)

To be frank, I don't understand why this is being added.

Performance and speed of Allakhazam (the website...not the admin Smiley: tongue) from my perspective has been the biggest grievance...yet adding sig images is only going to make that problem worse.

I'm not trying to be a d[/i]ick about it (the sig stuff IS cool), but why don't we focus on speed and reliability first?

Something I recall being brought up when the WoW sigs were first being implemented in the system feedback forum was the ability to disable these images. To my knowledge, this functionality was added, but it was also lumped in with the toggling of avatars.

For the most part, I like avatars. Some people pick some bad ones now and then, but they do have a way of helping to identify an individual without dramatically altering the size of the page. Signatures, on the other hand, can be obnoxiously long and poorly spaced. Adding pictures on top of these spam-happy sigs is more or less visual murder for a thread, especially if they post multiple times and actually provide little thread input.

In short, I'd like the sig option seperate of the avatars.

Good idea.

I still say custom sigs is the way to go. People won't pay to be just like everyone else.

Like Stunted, I will repeat from the other thread so that whichever one gets read, I get seen.

I would rather have all this pretty info in the side of the post, under my name, than in a flashy sig image.

Made this post on other thread, but including it here as well:

Go look on killingifrit.com, espcially in the sig request forum. They've got some GREAT artwork.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then they should have an Artwork section.

I don't ever use their boards because the text is lost in a sea of graphics. I like this board because it is based on text. I can actually read it.

If graphics are used on these boards, I don't mind as long as we have the option to turn them off. Alla pages take long enough to load as it is.

Perhaps an Artwork section here wouldn't be a bad idea. Then those who have an interest can share with a like-minded community.

As far as what users would want in their graphic sig, just note what most users put in their current text sig.

Winner! While I do like the look of those Sigs, I'd rather not have one thats the same as everyone elses. A custom Sig that I can create (limited size! about the same size as the banners mind you) would probably convince me to sign up for a Premium Account.

Yes, include a seperate buttons for "Ignore Sigs" like the "Ignore Avatars" would be good for those that don't want to see it.

While I think this is cool, I find it extremely surprising that the Allakhazam developers would be adding *more* content to serve when the servers are having trouble serving what we already have! And it's just text!

Based on the recent post requesting advice on what would make people become premium members, this is clearly an extension of that. I just hope this idea isn't implemented so short-sightedly that we will soon have a day when every premium post in a thread has a big graphic to download as well and we end up taking a nap between page loads rather than going to the restroom.

That's hyperbole, but it's only equally as ridiculous as adding content to an overloaded site. I just did a test to go to the THF forums and I clicked "Job Forums". After THIRTEEN seconds, a page with nothing more than a text table and the navigation bar shows up. Next test was four seconds only. I thought, "maybe it's better," so I tried again and it took NINETEEN SECONDS to load a text table!

Please address the more important problems first. Fancy sigs do us no good if we can't load them.

Edit:

I saw someone else posted this while I was writing:

I agree completely.

Really, the graphical sig idea is very cool, but please not until the speed issues are resolved.

I don't think alla's speed problems would be increased by allowing users to have sigs.. most of the problem seems to be with Alla's servers, not actual load times. Adding sig images (linked offsite) would probably add minimal lag for most of alla's users.

Well a format I think would be great is

Main job / sub job / nation rank /
craftskill level / server / linkshell

70WHM/35BLM [some gfx here] San d'Oria 7 [some gfx gere] Clothcraft 30 [same all gfx stuff] Cerberus [gfx] Utropia

That's being conservative and easy on peoples eyes. People have many crafts levelled, but one column could serve as a 'main' craft.

I did just that, and I stand corrected! They are not anything like I had pictured.

I heard graphics and freaked. I thought I was losing the only public forum I enjoy to a glutton of oversized pictures.

(hmm...so that's what all those letters are at the top of the page...)

Was on page 3 again.

Might I suggest a temporary sticky.

Might keep this from happening again.

Scene from A Few Good Allas:

Quote:
Illia: You want banners?
FFXIer: I think I'm entitled to them.
Illia: You want banners?
FFXIer: I want the sigs!
Illia: You can't handle the sigs! Son, we post in a forum that has walls. And those walls have to be enforced by devs with filters. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Sir Exodus? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for pixels and you curse the Admins. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that FFXIsig's delay, while tragic, probably got our site more hits. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, brings in more traffic...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about in derail threads, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like lock, move, nuke...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a hume who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very forum I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a premium account and make a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
FFXIer: Did you order the second set of WoW sigs?
Illia: I did the job they sent me to do.
FFXIer: Did you order the second set of WoW sigs?
Illia: You're goddamn right I did!!

Sorry Illia, just having some fun here during my sig revolution. Smiley: grin
