Craft skills are as important and useful as job levels.

I like it, but it would be nicer to keep the level to just your MAIN job.

I'd rather see "62 Paladin" than "PLD62 | WAR35 | MNK42" so on so forth. No matter what little petty subs you have and so forth...there is always your MAIN job...-the- job you see is perfect for you or better said, your toon.

I agree here. Maybe have the sigs automatically link to the player's information where all his or her characters are listed. Give the player the option to designate a 'main' character and build the banner off that one.

I do not know if this is feasible or not, but perhaps give the user the option of changing a line. Let them pick things like mission status (CoP, RoZ, etc), crafting levels, a random quote they want there, linkshell group(s), etc.

Yeah I didn't get a 100 leathercraft so I can't show it off on a little picture at the bottom...

If you include rank / nation you should include a rank value for each nation. Example mine would be Bastok 10, Sandora 10, Windurst 5

My banners revised, based on further suggestions.

Added: Linkshell
Changed: Main Job Only, Main Craft Only

Illia did say that the info will update automatically based on your character profile, so it would be feasable to put "ZM 5-1, PM 2-5, ect." in the line reserved for your Title if you choose to do so.

EDIT: These are just the work of a bored graphic artist, and do not reflect what Illia will design.

EDIT 2: New banner image.

how about you use the rank10 banner flags as a watermark for the picture background. maybe its just me but the sandy red yellow text is kinda hard to read
#34 Dec 16 2005 at 4:40 PM Rating: Good
Forget about multiple jobs, multiple crafts, and rank in multiple nations. Just pick one of each and include those. Add a bit of flavor to your postings rather than list every in-game accomplishment you've done.

I see my character as a Windurstian Summoner Weaver, not a former Bastokan San D'Orian White Mage Black Mage Paladin Ranger Ninja Goldsmith Tanner Alchemist Culinarian Fisherman. (Not that I was ever any of those things...) ^.^;

If graphical signatures get introduced, I still plan to keep a text signature that includes all my crafts. I'm sure people with multiple jobs and rank 10 in three nations will continue to do the same.

My 2 gil worth. ^.^;

Do what I do. Nominate Primary and Secondard Jobs with Primary and Secondary subs so you only see:

BLM74/WHM36 and BST53/NIN26

Please no ;_;

We don't need to have forums chock full of graphical crap ins sigs that take days too load.

Ever read one of those "Drama" threads on KI? Takes friggen months to load.

Now, this might not start out like that, but beware the slippery slope!

I agree with InsideTheAsylum. Text signatures are bad enough for filling up the forums with useless information that nobody cares about. Graphical signatures are worse, and just consume a lot of unecessary bandwidth. If you are going to enable them, please add a filter to turn them off.

Quote:
Forget that, I see that you have already adjusted it to "Hide Images" which hides both the sigs and avatars.
The problem with this is avatars are actually useful, and two images shouldn't necessarily be linked to the same option. I like being able to scroll through a thread and quickly identify the posts of some of the better posters by simply looking for their avatar. The avatars are also restricted to the same vertical column of the message thread display, making them easy to ignore when you're scanning through the contents of the posts.

On the other hand, the signatures are just useless noise. They convey information that I don't really care about, they aren't distinct enough to make it easy to distinguish between different posters, and worse, and they're often larger (vertically) than the length of most posts. I mean, even with Illia's fairly lengthy original post, the signature takes up 1/4 to 1/2 of the vertical real-estate of his message, depending on the size of your browser.

I think the idea is to make a standard sig that the website itself generates for you. The size would be standard among all users. I don't see it becoming a KI sigfest.

The simpler and smaller the better. Perhaps make it smaller but longer to fit more of the annoying info in there lol. Could use the 3 nations colors as backgrounds depending on the person's nationality.

I agree, narrower and wider would be better (for reference, see my Xfire sig: http://img400.imageshack.us/img400/6892/screenhunter0311wt.jpg )

As far as additional info, that is tough for FFXI. Smiley: confused

I don't really like the "this is your nation" and "this is your job" ideas because it leaves no room for people who have multiple options.

I'm San d'Oria Rank 10, Windurst Rank 8 (soon to be 10) and working on Bastok once... why should I need to pick just one? I'm gonna be proud of Rank 30.

I'm also a WHM74 -and- a BLM72. If it just showed one job... how would I pick and why should I need to? I'm happy with both of them.

Personally, I think it should show 2-3 jobs minimum and have the option of showing multiple ranks. I'd MSPaint one up but I'm at work and don't think they'd like paying me for that >.<

EDIT: It's not just me:

For nation emblem, I'm talking about the coat of arms for that nation
For Guild emblem, I'm talking about the one you would see on aprons and such.

It's 5 lines long.

I'm absolutely all for this. I've always been mildly saddened by the lack of ability to use images in alla's forums. Although I can understand the necessity for the restriction of allowing images to be rampant, overuse and bandwidth issues, I still miss them. ^^
However, I think having a "generated" sig image is a fabulous idea. I wandered over to a WoW thread once, and saw them there, and have been jealous ever since. Now to hear it's in the works, I'm ecstatic. Probably will be enough motivation to renew my Premium Membership when the time comes.
I agree with the quotes above mostly.
I'd say 3 main jobs would suffice for most players. Sure there are people with 4 or 5 main jobs, even leveled to 70+, but mostly those are for "fill-in" variety, when one of those jobs is lacking they use it to fill in for missing members. I personally have 3 jobs that I plan for end-game activites within the near future, and 2 or 3 others that I'll level past AF stages some day down the road, but only the 3 "mains" would I have any desire to see, and advertise publicly.

Also, us requesting a lot of extraneous information does get into the image's size itself.

I thoroughly support the layout as show in the quote:
(Name) - Race/Gender - Server
(San d'Oria emblem) # (Bastok emblem) # (Windurst emblem) #
ZM: # PM: # TM: #
{Five highest job levels} JOB## | JOB## | JOB## | JOB## | JOB##
{Five highest craft skills} (Guild emblem) # (Guild emblem) # (Guild emblem) # (Guild emblem) # (Guild emblem) #

But, since it is (errr would be) pulling information from our profile here, I'd also support the "Current Title" feature, probably fairly small font, just below the name.

My added suggestion, code it to be a link to the user's main character's profile. See the sig, ooh spiffy, click to check them out.
Edit: Scrolled back to the top, and {Hmmm.} it seems the WoW ones are already coded like that. ^^ GJ

I think its a great idea ^.^ But along with them for those users who are on dial up, I request an option to turn them off since loading time is already an issue with the normal forums.

That is, assuming Kao isn't gonna do it. Or anyone else, for that matter.

The thing that's bad about this is that avatars are useful for poster identification, whereas sigs are there pretty much so whoever has it can feel special.

In short:
Avatars are useful. I can safely assume that any post with the O RLY / Doom thing is going to be a useless BST *****-post, for example.

Sigs are useless. No one cares about your 13.2 Cooking or some pathetic ****, hell I'd wager no one would care if you had 100 Gold and 7 jobs at 75. It's annoying.
