Hello, I'm newly subscribed to the premium services here, and I have a few problems with the forum/journal system. Hopefully, some of the experienced users here can help me out.

1) I want to know how to set my journal as Read Only, so that only I can post to it, but have it readable by anyone. I know there's an option in user settings for "Read Only". But when I select it, and enable the listing of my Journal, it appears as though anyone can post to it. I checked this by using a different browser, and going to the link to my journal, and there were options for Reply and New Thread. Is there something wrong with the Journal features preventing a Read Only Journal?

2) I notice on the forums, other users have a link to their journal above each of their posts. How do I enable this?

Sorry if these are n00bish questions. I tried searching for the answers myself, and couldn't find them. Please help me if you can.

Note: I have my journal temporarily disabled now, until someone can help me get it properly set up for Read Only.

TIA

I'm not sure on the Read Only question. You'd think that it would work, but I guess not. You might want to try Private, and see what happens.

Your journal's address is http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/journal.html?user=327240
To make a link to it just type this:

[link=http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/journal.html?user=327240]Tarmus Journal: Diary of a Mad SAM[/link]

I've formatted that so that instead of showing a link on my post, it shows what you'd need to type. For more help regarding this, click on [ Markup Help ] either here in my post, or below the buttons on any post that you are currently writing. Also, if you have any other quetions about links and formatting on this board, I've messed around with it quite a bit, and would be glad to help. Just send me a message, or post in my journal if you have a question, and I'll try to answer it the best that I can.

Have fun with your premium.Smiley: grin

Thanks for the response! I'm glad someone was reading this. I sent an email to allakhazam@allakhazam.com and got no response.

Anyway, I know how to do markup in posts, but I was just wondering why the "User's Journal" button/link at the top of my posts wasn't showing up. See in our posts, here? Your post has one, mine does not.

The Journal was one of the main reasons I signed up, and I'd hate to think that I'm getting less than what everyone else who paid is getting.

And I still haven't got my Allakhazam email to go through. Just get a bounce message every time I try to send one to it. Says the account doesn't exist. Smiley: banghead

In order for your email to become active you need to flag your email account public in your User Settings.

I think it only shows the link if your journal is open to all, yu raise a good point though, I'll change that (when the system's under less load)..

Confirmed.

Setting Journal to "Yes" will allow display of link at top of posts. Setting to anything other than "Yes" will not display a journal link. So I'll leave it set to "Read Only", and maybe it'll get fixed when you get time. I know how it is, trust me. LOL

Also: Setting email address to public allows for link to be properly presented at the top of forum posts, but the actual email address itself still does not appear to be functioning. Sending an email to this address generates the following bounce:

Quote:
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<tarmus@allakhazam.com>
(reason: 550 5.1.1 <tarmus@allakhazam.com>... User unknown)

And I still don't know why I don't have Scholar status. Smiley: confused I'll be patient, though. Smiley: cool

Your user info says that your average post rating is 3.00, but it needs to be 3.01 or higher to gain scholar status. It looks like no one has ever rated you up or down, but I could be wrong.

As for the email, I never really messed with it. Sorry.

There is a delay once you set the email address public before the email system picks it up.

Speaking of load, Kaolain was performing a stress test for the new PM system, so I sent him a message quoting this entire post:

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=108199584735788316

It's from the first OMG!!! thread.

I then tried to forward it to SeomanP as part of the test, but it came up blank, and also wouldn't transfer the test into the text window when I pressed Quote Original. The message to Kao was 36434 Bytes in size, but you know me... always seeing how far I can stretch things.Smiley: lol

By the way, are we going to get a link on the user information that goes to the PM folder list? Right now, I just have a message from myself in my inbox, so that I can easily get there, but I was wondering if we'll have a normal link soon.

Anyway, congrats on a job well done, getting that up and running.(^_^)

Aha! I'm in limbo, then! That's it. Thanks a lot, I don't know why I never thought of that.

Everything is working just fine in my account now. Thanks for helping me through the issues. Any idea on progress of listing journals in posts, if your journal is set to read-only? Not sure if I want to make mine public or not, because I have no idea how rampant the cluttering can get.

Fixed it, it now shows the journal link, even if it's read only.
