#1 Jul 13 2004 at 9:49 AM Rating: Decent
Hi there helpful forum admins.. I mistakenly assumed that being the admin of my journal I could lock and unlock at will. Ooos. >,< Is it possible to have it unlocked? Barring that.. Could someone simply delete it?

The thread:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/journal2.html?user=330593&mid=108972926195653436&num=0

Thank you! You all rock. :)

Peace

You have the option "nuke" the post in the rating. I don't think it effects karma, but it will delete the thread... or at least did for me.

I'd really like to know whats the difference between nuking and burying a thread.

Edit: Scratch that, you can't nuke your own threads. But I'd still like to know what bury does =/

He cannot nuke his own posts.

I have nuked the locked post since once locked, it is always locked unless a programmer comes around.

Bury does the same thing Nuke does.

All of the ratings are an average of:

1. The poster's rating when the post was created,
2. Thge poster's rating of the thread (which can't be changed), and
3. Any other ratings.

Take this for an example:

PosterX writes something about bots. His average rating at the time he writes it is 3.18. PosterY thinks that this post shouldn't be there, and gives him an Awful. ModA sees this post next and pushes Bury this post (-5).

(3.18 + 3.18 + 1 + -5) / 4 = .59

Same scenario, except ModA decides to hit Nuke (-50) instead:

(3.18 + 3.18 + 1 + -50) / 4 = -10.66

Bury is an option which will knock most posts below the filter, but not remove them from the visible Thread Index altogether. Please note that some topics, such as OMG!! SUPER IMPORTENT NEED HELP THREAD! LOOK AT MY CAPS!!!!, need multiple Nukings to stay off of the index due to a very large amount of rateups.

Oh wow!

First, thank you, Lady Darkflame!

Second, very interesting info, Darkness.. Thank you. :) I'll definitely avoid locking unless I REALLY want to lock a thread from now on. And the info regarding burying and nuking was very informative.

Peace!

So only Dana, Ag, and Illia can unlock threads?

Correct and it takes teeth pulling to get it done. So you are best to bury/copy and lock type of thing. Only time I have gotten threads unlocked was when I locked some they didn't want locked. It took Dana quite some time as he has to re-do the page or something. (don't ask me I'm severely programmy illiterate)
