WTF is so Great about Karma (and an idea)

Scholars and Above

Here you go, I give up. Trolls win. Admins!

Stupid Subjob, JPvsNA, /checking, Getting Gil, new jobs

If you've got a problem with me, tell me you pussies.

People YOU should be karma camping until they become gurus

I will rate everyone up!!!

WE MUST UNITE!!! Admins look

WE WILL CONTINUE TO UNITE YOU KARMA TROLLS!!!

Karma chameleon...

I know you're big on user moderation, but these kinds of complaining threads just **** people off. Then, they do one of the following:

a) Rate people down like crazy

b) Create their own complaining threads

If they do (a), the people rated down complain about karma trolls and create more complaining threads. If they do (b), people karma camp those threads and more even more are created. It's a viscious cycle.

Personally, I like karma. I DON'T think it's useless.

Maybe you could censor the word "Karma" in any post like you do with "monk item." ;)

Yeah, I got nothing against you mav. But these threads just stir up a lot of trouble.

Added a few more.

I think everyone just had a bad week.

This too will pass.

I've been wondering what the hell happened lately. Just in the past week...geez.

Anyway, thanks for bringing this up, Tricky. I hope it makes at least some difference in the main FFXI forum. :/

Best idea I've seen so far.

Please do lock them.

Johnny, I posted a reply to your last post that was for me. I made a new thread so I wouldn't bump the one I was quoting from. Sorry for being an ***.

I look at that post now, and think I should have wrote it here.

As much as I appreciate the idea of people hosting Server Specific forums in their journals (which I know is not supported by the owners/creators of this site), the List of Server Forums thread has become nothing more than an excuse for rampant spamming, double posting, post count padding, and karma camping (both up and down).

It just helps to make the FFXI Forums main page look worse than it already can at times.

Thats not the point of the posts in there. If you pay any attention to the thread it is bumped with the purpose of creating awareness for the thread. Lady and a few others put in a lot of hard work to create the server forums and we want people to be able to have access to them. Anyway it is mainly only 5-6 of us that consistently post there and it is a good oulet for us to discuss random topics as well. It is not used to pad post counts or rate Karma (although it does get a troll every noe and then). We try to keep it Karma free but it just won't happen because of some peoples decenting opinions about the thread. Don't try and shoot down something by falsifying facts.

...You know..it's funny you said this cause most of the people that post in that thread are the ones posting the most helpful threads out side of that one. You know...come to think of it...when was the last time you posted a helpful topic?...hhhmmmm.

Don't be an ***, EWS. I've seen her post a good deal of helpful posts just as much as others do on the forums when I am reading.

And as much as I like the thread, she does have a point. Have you considered, maybe, that the server thread is perhaps being a little too over-posted in? Especially with the way people freely double, triple, and quadruple post.

Honestly, despite the fact that I host one of the server forums, I think that the posting en masse to the thread needs to stop. Originally it was just for the sake of bumping it, keeping it alive, and advertising the server forums. Now it's just a behemoth. Keeping alive is good ... showing off the server forums is good ... being a magnet for karma trollers (positive and negative) and spam-happy posters is not.

Yeah...it is over posted..But we like talking to each other and it needs to get bumped...new people come to this site every day..I just don't want to see it go away...As for the double and triple posts...I can't speak on behalf of Mav...

In all honesty (I'm not trying to be a ****) Why is it bad that this thread is so big?...and why is spamming bad? (besides slowing up the server a little)Why is people chating instead of say *Bump* bad? (Just asking cause I don't know) If I was able to ...I'd cut the thread back down to the original page and let it keep going....::shrugs::

Is the server forum thread becoming the new OMG LOOK AT MY CAPS thread? I haven't been reading it, since Firefox takes forever to load pages with 200+ posts.

Anyway, it's kinda funny that karma-related issues are what chased away the first OMG thread, and now a new one has popped up and is getting complaints of its own.
#17 Jul 13 2004 at 4:14 PM Rating: Good
I think any thread that gets that big has karma problems, my vote would be to let Lady create a new version of it for us to bump, that would keep people from having 70 pages worth of posts to rate when they get mad at someone who posts in the thread.

You guys are welcome to join the Army? It's rather nice in there, once you get past the standard Who the Hell are you?®.

I'm thinking of just switching in my link to the copy in my journal and editing the one on the mai board to just show a link to there. If I do this, everyone might want to adjust their links as well.

I've made a new Official list, and stickied and locked it in my journal.

The purpose of the server forum thread is to get the list out there, that's was the only reason it was getting bumped.

It has gotten out of hand with the page claiming. It orignally started as a fun thing for the 5-6 of us that were there to keep it bumped, a way to pass the time so to speak.. but now there are people there just to claim pages.

It might be time to redo the thread and let the old one die...

Must think on this for a bit.

Yes, I agree, we need to get rid of that thread because it's just only causing problems.

However, I still want a place to just BS and talk during the boring days at work...

Can we just remake the thread every week or something? Let the orginal go unbumped and just make the same thing? Because it still makes sense to have that one the general discussion forum.
#24 Jul 13 2004 at 5:32 PM Rating: Decent
A new thread bumped each week and then left alone? Sounds reasonable.

In that case, you can still use the new list in my journal. Just copy and paste the yellow section only, and you'll have the full list.

Yeah, I like this idea. New thread each week.

I'll "host" the thread each week. That way if someone gets annoyed at a new one each week, I'll take the heat. Smiley: grin
