Karma Hit, and a Thought.Follow

I am beginning to wonder if having an active karma system in the feedback area for FFXI is a good thing.

Now understand, I don't mind the rating to me in the opening post of the thread. That's fine. When a Squenix employee is scanning through those forums to see what people like and do not like by the current karma scores, they're only going to see the very first number on the right of that thread subject, which is the thread's first post's score.

But what bothers me is when someone thinks, "I disagree! So I should rate each and every post down in this thread by that person." Okay, fine ... I can take the hit.

But what got under my skin most of all was that every last post except the dissenting one was rated with an "Awful," if my numbers are correct. Not just mine, but other people's just because they agreed. Even one that simply said "nvm baron beat me to it."

Honestly, isn't there any sort of function that can be set in place where only the first post in the Feedback section is rated, and the rest are left in peace? It just seems irrational to go and rate down a whole thread as low as you possibly can.

Sorry for the griping. I had a long night, and waking up to find -- in my eyes at least -- a well thought-out thread by me taking a nearly all-posts karma hit really frustrated me.

No, this thread is a different person, people don't like to hear about karma whether whining or not. This has been discussed to hell and back and it has been decided this is the best way. For creeps like the fish bot guy, the karma system worked rather well and most of his posts fell below the default viewing line.

As for the nvm baron beat me to it, his post was live for a short time before he edited, that could have gotten him the rate down. I am still keeping an eye on that person :)

Actually, I would've but my account is set to guest status so, I'm *No-Rate* for the time being. Got mail in to an Admin to hopefully get it fixed. I know they're busy so I'll give them a couple more days.

I don't exactly agree with that. I'll admit, I was not pleased to find someone had carpet bombed my thread, not caring in the least who posted what ... but at the same time, the ratings will ensure that most good posts -- not all, but most -- will be taken note of by Squenix folk who are observing the board.
