Clarification?Follow

Seems nowadays there's so many people confused as to why a post is or isn't getting nuked.

Please see here and here and here.

I think there's a lot of posters (and possibly a few mods) that could use some clarification on exactly what is and what isn't OOT.

How game free does a post need to be for OOT? Seems mentioning something like FFXI sets off bells and whistles among posters in OOT that the post is in the wrong forum, but a OOT thread like this gets nuked because of it's on the FFXI.

Any insight you can offer as to what is and isn't considered OOT would be appreciated. And if you could be a little more specific than "A forum for the Allakhazam community to babble about non game related subjects."?

Thanks.

That thread got nuked because it has nothing to do with the game itself.

Thanks Haggan, I understand that it has nothing to do with the game itself. But it does have mention of FFXI, which you have to agree is a flame target in either OOT or the Asylum.

In the thread that you nuked, and understand I agree with you that it's not game related, you suggested the Multi-Game Forum- "Use this forum to discuss any games not covered by specific forums." or the Book Forum, which I assume is the "Science Fiction and Fantasy" forum - "Do you love Science Fiction and Fantasy? This forum is for posts about your favorite or not so favorite Science Fiction or Fantasy books, movies, shows, etc."

So it got me thinking, what jobs would these famous characters, as they are written in the books/movies, have in FFXI?

I don't see how this could be considered applicable under the definition of the "Multi-Game Forum." And while I agree that it can loosely be put into the "Science Fiction and Fantasy," it's not really a discussion about a book/movie etc.

Please?

Or we could always just petition for another forum. We can call it the "Non-Game Related Game Topic Forum" - Use this board to discuss any non-game but game related topics.

Does this have anything to do with the game itself? Which forum is it in?

Alright guys, don't need to post all the unrelated links, it doesn't matter. The mods can't be expected to see every thread, and they admit to some that "fall through the cracks". There's a whole lot of posts on this board.

Of course that's why they have a

Those are some big cracks.

I assume it's like when the government wants to keep tabs on you because you spoke out against Bush. They keep an eye on the posts by certain users and censor the ones they feel aren't appropriate.

Where exactly draws the line? Although, I'm liking my "Non-Game Related Game Topic Forum - Use this board to discuss any non-game but game related topics" more and more.

See here's the deal. The OOT forum we have now was originally the FF OOT forum. You guys already have 4 times or so the amount of forums as anyone else does. Why not use them?

OOT means RL issues, etc.

Multi game, means anything that is game related that we don't cover.

Science Fiction and Fantasy means anything to do with books, movies, etc in those genres.

Every post that has been nuked could have been fit into one of these forums.

The Main FFXI forum is for use of talk about IN GAME subjects, anything that relates to something out of game, such as comparing jobs to fiction characters, belongs somewhere else.

My post watch list is a little home for those "special" children that like to spam, scam, or post things specifically designed to annoy everyone. There are very few people on it. People like Pum, that stupid rpbgus site spammer, etc.

"In Game" needs to be defined more.

Karg's video library isn't "in game". It's just a bunch of videos and screenshots.

This one isn't about game mechanics/issues.

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=1084993721638593855&num=74

An opinion thread about what's favorite part of FFXI. Not an "in game" issue. This is more of an out of game discussion.

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=1084941747736042046&num=23

A joke-type thread. Not about game issues.

Who decides what is considered ingame or out of game, etc?

Personally, I think the community should, but that's just me.

We also have 4 times or so the number of posts as anyone else; and each and every FFXI forum is used. Your paragraph just seems to take a swing at a group that statistically looks like about 2/3rds of the community, which was really unnecessary.

Thank you for the clarification on these. I didn't know, and I assume most other people don't, that

"Use this forum to discuss any games not covered by specific forums." means "Multi game, means anything that is game related that we don't cover."

It's the forum description wording that's ******** people up. I'm sure there's plenty of people that don't bother looking at the different forums available; but there's also plenty that do, clarifying the site's description of the forums may help.

I've also noticed that many threads that you nuke offer no explanation as to why. Shouldn't you be trying to educate the community as to where exactly they should post a topic?

Trust me, when we get thread moving, there will be explanations as to why threads were moved. As for right now, ill see what I can do, if I can remember to leave a note I will.

I figured as much. I was just trying to make an example of how difficult it is to monitor a board as large as this. Especially with the swell the FFXI crowd has added.

Yea, I don't think any of use expected the FFXI to do as well as it is doing. Its insane.

EDIT: example of this.. as of right now, the FFXI site has served up a total of about 16 million pages for the month of May. The EQ site has served up about 21 million pages for the month of May. Not bad for a game that has only been out in NA for 8 months or so.

I agree that the definitions for the use of each forum should be defined more clearly. In fact, I think it would be ideal to provide a very systematic operational definition of each forum and then post these definitions in a sticky post on the main page under the title "forum directory" or something. This might help to clear up some of the confusiong. In addition, it might be useful to lock the thread and post an explanation why the thread is nuked for a short period of time before the thread is actually nuked. This would allow people to become accustomed with what is acceptable material in each forum through experience rather than explanation, which can be a much more powerful learning method.

Well you see Kaolian, the problem is that the forums are not defined in a way that sufficiently describes the content of the forum. The particular forum under discussionis the main final fantasy discussion forum, which is described on this page as, "Our Main Final Fantasy Forum." Which is really not very descriptive of content. My suggestion would be to adjust this definition such that it is more descriptive of the content you are seeking. Without this description determining whether content is game-related becomes blury as many people might be using a broader definition of "game-related" than you have in mind. I also think that there should be a sticky post on the main page in order to avoid misunderstandings like this:

LINK REMOVED

Really, I'm just trying to help out. If my suggestions are not wanted, just let me know and I'll keep them to myself. Sorry if I've become an annoyance. Thank you for listening.
