Unable to access Karma system? (repost)Follow

Original post placed in the EQ forum - I didn't notice this one until this afternoon. My bad.
Quote:
I went a-browsing on the Allakhazam site yesterday, and noticed that I cannot rate postings at the moment. I am logged in with my premium account, and have checked from several PCs, 3 of which have not experienced this issue before. Is there some new user config setting that I am missing that might prevent me from rating others' posts?

Oddly enough, I *can* rate posts on the EQ forum - just not in the discussions in item/quest sections :p.

Your base karma is currently 2.99. You need a 3.01 or higher to be able to rate. with only 51 posts, it may be fluctuating a bit right now.

I'm in the same boat. My karma is 4.29 as I write this, and I can rate posts in the forums here, but not on items, quests, or mobs.

I don't get the drop-down rating box at all on item pages, so I can't rate your post. Just double-checked it now.

I am having the same problem. I cannot rate the post you made nor any posts on any item or quest page. Tried in multiple browsers and had same issue.

It's only a sockpuppet if you use it for non-testing purposes.

I still can't rate some item posts, but I can rate beastiary posts etc.. cant rate
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=748 as example
#17 May 26 2004 at 12:26 AM Rating: Decent
I may have found the culprit. At various times, the browser thinks that I am logged in as "anonymous", even though I have access to account info and can add the item to my character's inventories. I have to click on "log on", then return to the item that was buggy.

Even then, I can rate posts, but cannot post myself - an attempt gives the message "Anonymous posting has been disabled on this forum". On that screen, the forum preferences window is back to "Logged in as: Anonymous "

example: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=23154&mid=107637834810729#post
If I click on that link , I am "anonymous", but if I open in a new window (off of the WinXP right-click dropdown menu), it works fine.

No matter what I do, I always show as being "anonymous", so I can't add posts to items, but this forum works fine. The rest of the site thinks I'm logged in, however. Is this just one huge unsquashed bug, still?

well I can rate stuff on the page I linked again.

A bit of an update - I have fixed the "logged in as anonymous"-only-while-looking-at-items-or-bestiary by switching from IE to FireFox today. (A permanent switch for me, it fights for disk access a lot less than IE ever did.) Whatever the bug is, it seems to be IE specific.

I'm kind of curious about a couple of concepts of the karma system, however. First, why aren't item/bestiary and forum karma separate? I post genuinely useful things or not-so-common questions on items, and they are rated down by what seems like an army of people who rate everything down, and they never seem to recover. (Sorry to sound like the ranters in other posts, but I'd bet if you ran stats, more 1's and 2' are given than 3's and 4's. I don't count 5's, most people reserve those for things that deserve it) I fail to see how what I write about items or creatures in the bestiary correlates to my ability to rate forum posts.

Also, if karma starts a 3, someone who has never posted can rate, but someone with hundreds of posts and a 2.9 karma is unqualified to rate by comparison? (Unless there is a minimum number of posts, and I'm just missing it.)

At this time it is either 15-20 posts before one can rate. We are, however considering raising this number due to sock puppet usage for ratings. :)

I think that's a very good idea.
