User found abusing the karma system, banning recommendedFollow

I thought that the site admins should be alerted that a group of users, apparently led by LadyofHolyDarkness, have been deliberately attempting to control the ratings of other users for no other reason than to keep them at a rating level that they deem "appropriate". Clearly this is an abuse of a system that was meant to allow the forum to self-moderate, and as a user of this site I am appalled by their behavior. While few others have come forward on the matter, I feel that the people who have should be suspended as a demonstration that this kind of fascistic, abusive behavior won't be tolerated or encouraged. Evidence of the abuse can be found here: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=108379070238181436&num=48

I fail to see any abuse of the karma system in that thread.

It is possible that she has edited her post to cover up the issue, but there is another thread where it is being discussed. Basically, she and some unnamed friends took it upon themselves to rate down a popular post for the express purpose of preventing that user from attaining a higher rating which they did not feel he "deserved" because he hadn't been on the forum as long as they had.

Here are the exact quotes:

Just thought you should be informed, since it seems pretty unfair.

In breaking news, Sal Summers of Nantucket, MA has recently been reported handing out pearls worth hundreds of dollars to friends! The reason?

"These are magic pearls! I can talk into one, and everyone can hear what I say! And vice-versa!"

You seem convinced that you can justify blatantly breaking the rules simply by "proving" that other people have annoyed you.

Nope, but I know Illia reads both sides of the story, and I said I'm sorry. Too bad you're to lazy to look.

Goodnight.

I looked quite a bit. And as I've said before, your apology rings rather hollow, given that it is generally prefaced with your trying to justify it as being "correct" or understandable. Even true remorse is meaningless, and you don't even have that.

Depends on whose point of view you look at it from.

We've been kicked around a lot more than you.

I seriously suggest you try out the Asylum.

I suggest you stop trying to hide behind this ridiculous self-victimization. The only thing I saw in that thread was your disdain for the "common" user who wasn't part of your little clubhouse. If you don't like the forum, that doesn't give you the right to maliciously use the features of this forum to attack them. Flame them if you want, ***** about them in your little private journal, but when you abuse the system the way you did today, you cross a line, and something should be done about it.

I find myself wondering how long you've been here.

Among tose links is a thread over 3000 posts long. That's where our clubhouse started, and it was open to anyone and everyone.

Karma took it away from us.

Karma and people complaining about it.

We were trying to stop that, and I'm sorry we messed things up a little, but as you're not going to stop complaining, I'm just giving up.

Edit: By the way, that thread was on the Main Forum.

I see that htey've pretty much wrapped everything up on the main forum now, so I'll consider this thread ended.

The original post in that thread has 2 negative ratings, and a host of up ratings. Averaged out, it comes to 4.45, which is pretty good given the number of 3's it was also scored.

If there was talk of a conspiracy, it seemingly didn't take hold, nor have any great effect.

The reason everyone gets a say is so that your say counters someone who says theirs for off reasons.

Thank you for looking into that.

I'm at work and too busy to really look into the forum right now, but I see that last night's 6 hour flame war has become the talk of the forum.

I'm not going to post in that thread, but I think I'll put on the Depends again for the effect it brings.Smiley: grin

Just for now that is.

EDIT: I think the Depends make a powerful statement as to my views regading the karma system in general.

EDIT: Just testing out something that Asako mentioned during one of his "Quote Original and rant about fascism" posts.

EDIT: Well, that answered my question. Not that I really care.
