Rating posts broken?Follow

Over the last couple of days, whenever i've tried to rate a post it doesn't work. I'd set the rating, and click "Rate Posts" as usual, but when the page loads again the post rating is the same, and the option box for setting a rating is still there. Is this just a problem with me, or have others noticed this?

I changed how the rating box is displayed.

I used to go through every time a post was displayed to you, and see if you'd rated it - then decide to show you to the box or not.

now, I dropped the check, if you're likely to be able to rate a thread, then it shows it to you. (though I should probably stop it from showing on your own threads).

the only time the check is done is when you actually rate posts. This removes well, 1,000's of queries from needing to run, and should result in higher performance. at the cost that you see a dropdown regardless of rating.

Try to rate all the posts in this thread (the buton's down at the bottom)

Erm, I kinda found a loophole in the thread locking code too. Will e-mail you details if you like.

Now I find that I can rate, but the drop box to select a rating still shows afterwards.

Multible ratings have no effect, only my first one counts.

Still, tricky when thinking "did I rate him yet?"

ya ya so I didn't actually add the check to the reply function.. was waiting to see how long it took you :)

Nope, still showing the drop box to select a rating even after I've rated that post already.

More time fixing ratings, less time making me not Last, please.

oh, you get the box regardless now...

the message ratings table is 1.77 Million records at the moment. every time any non-anon user viewed a post (on say a page with 4,700 posts), that represented a pretty significant overhead.

so the select a rating box is normal for all posts.

Hmm, so it shows up whether or not I've rated that post already?

Interesting.

It doesn't count each rating though right? Just the first one?

Rating seems to stop going up after the first time rating it, so I guess so. But still odd that I won't be able to tell if I've rated a post already.

One of the things I love about the board rating system is that you can rate each post as you read, then click "Submit" at the end of the page and rate all the posts in one shot. Would it be possible to implement this system on the main Alla's pages? (e.g., Items, spells, etc.) It's pretty irritating to have to rate each post individually then submit that one rating, especially now that you can't tell just by looking whether you've already rated a post or not.
