One question. Why in f*cking hell cant all the moderators moderate and get rid of all the "Gil for sale" threads popping up on the main FFXI forums? Last time I looked Im paying for premium service to NOT see ads.

Seeing as there are only around 5 or so moderators/admins that regularily peruse the forums, and almost none of them even go into the FFXI forums, it's not suprsing that a thread or two slips through. If you ask them nicely they usually are happy to get rid of the really bad ones. They need a dedicated FFXI mod.

Allakhazam, if Illia can program set it up so that you could pick a few users to be moderators for just one specific forum. maybe grab some of the OOT crew and set them loose on the FFXI forum where no toes would get stepped on, or some of the EQ people to look into the SWG forum. maybe set it up so that the mini mods can't actually remove a thread, but they can tag it so that the next time a full admin is on, it pops up on a list as flagged for deletion/moderation?

As big as this place is getting, things are going to start slipping through

I can accept that things may not get taken care of immediately. But this has been going on for weeks now. And if no moderators check the FFXI forum, even though its the most used forum on Alakhazam, then I find that totally unacceptable.

I had to beg, but Kaolin did come and check it out at my request. I do agree, there needs to be more system support on the FFXI forums. The posters who are "illustrious," etc, are not able to control anyone or anything in the way that is often needed. Having a few admins whose power doesn't reach beyond the FFXI forums would be great...perhaps one for every job forum?

So that they only could work within that forum...as was needed. Either way, I agree. However, just moding random people wouldn't work. Within each forum, it would have to be someone/people who have been important there. For example, certain people on the WHM forum have been gods for advice, etc.

A few more. JPGILGUY is a seller for a site. Only reason he posts. How come we dont have somebody who comes through and looks at the front page of FF boards at least once a day?

Hell, Id pay YOU to let me delete stupid threads. Like those link through to an ad ones, or the want to sell char accounts. I don't have a life. Besides, selling anyhthing out of game for FFXI is a big breach of thier EULA. They can and will come after you in a big way if your caught. Like real life fines and stuff. Log the IP and give it to Square Smiley: sly

I'd be willing to tone my avatar down and remove 'bee-yotch' from my sig if you wanted me to be a mini mod, browsing all the forums and sending e-mails with links to the "bad thread".

Wouldn't even need to give me a cool title or change my color or anything, I'm actually just bored enough and like the people here well enough to read through posts of no interest to me to make sure everybody is behaving.

I'd be unbiased in my decisions, since I don't play any of the games anymore. Just looking for crap and letting you know where it is so you can delete it.

Atomicflea has a similar thing going on at another forum she frequents, except they have pm's, which makes it a bit easier.

You are holding my leash, all you gotta do is give it some slack and I'll go hunt those spammers/hackers/crossposters/___warz fools.

Oh, and NotCoach, that was pretty rude. You are more than welcome to start your own website and run your own FF forums.

I'll go over there and give you crap for things I don't like in a very rude way, see how you like it.

Jerk.

(ok, so maybe I'm not so unbiased)

Not exactly the nicest of thread subjects, but I feel your pain. I think I'm on the main board about as much as you are.

So I guess I'm posting to petition mini-mods of some sort. Is it possible to appoint a few people that can just flag/hide some posts until a moderator can come around and decide what to do with it?

Wait....the people asking to be mods are already mods. Am I missing something? =3

I'd be happy to "mod" the SMN (summoner) and WHM (white mage) boards...I've been on them for a while, and until recently my advice had been very well recieved. That'd be fun...

A moderator has a name the same color as Allakhazam's with the title "Adminstrator". Us Guru's have higher than average rating capability, but we can't lock or delete threads.

The problem with having a moderator picked from the FFXI forum, is that it people there may be biased one way or the other. If you had the power to delete a post in the summoner forum because you didn't like it for some reason, would you? It's a question of Objectivity vs. Power.

That's why I'm perfect for the job.

Elect Queen Skeet for Mini Mod!

Good point, Kaolin.

I'm so passive most of the time...no, I wouldn't. "Mimi-mods" wouldn't have the power to delete posts anyway; they would only "tag" them.

Besides, I doubt the Summoner forum would have many occasions for even that. The situation we had recently was the first of its kind, pretty much. The WHM forum, however, is a breeding ground for ************ Which are fun to watch, until karma camping starts.

Finally, it's better to give it to a known and regular poster. Sorry Skeeker-san, but I've never seen you post on the job forums. =P Since we've been there for most of its popularity, we know what's unusual, what blows over quickly, what doesn't matter. On the Samurai forum, for another example, the regular posters fight ALL THE TIME, but it never escalates into a big problem. A non-visitor acting as the "minimod" wouldn't know this, and might take posts the wrong way.

Nyaa, I sound bad saying this stuff...aw, whatever. ^^; The only time I've acted "impartially" on a post, *ever*, was with the SMN problem, and that was because I justly reported him and got personally attacked for it. I've been impartial for the most part in every other instance. =3

You can still always email one of us :) And as much as it pains me (j/k) I have been checking the FFXI forums nearly daily.

Well, Cloned Mini Mods, might be a solution. But could something like this thread fly? I mean, the mods now have lives, friends (maybe not Alla :P) and family. They can't be everywhere all the time. However, if there was like a bad thread topic here, we could post threads that may need to be examined. You know, hey this threads violent or its a plat for sale thread, post the link in a members only type section and as the mods descend from the mountains, they could take out the worst of the threads right away. Or do what they deem needed.

They would still have to do there mod thing, but the worst of the possible threads would be in one neat lil section. Sticky a board rules and policys post at the top of the thread and check the links as they come in. And hopefully, the sentinent members of the board would direct the mods to possible rule breaking threads.

Now I know the pliminary plan has more holes then swiss cheese, but if you could limit complainers to at least a three karma or something to prevent all the sub default whiners who would complain about any thing they didn't agree with from coming in. At least some way to make sure the person complaining has a well established record (karma) and thier opinion isn't driven by something petty. I don't know of a better way right now, but I'll come across it maybe.

How's about I just let everyone with a Karma of 3.01 or higher rate every post, and if enough people agree it's a bad post, it gets dropped?
