I'm not sure if this is intended or a glitch but something tells me it's just something that has been coded wrong.

On my Beastmaster, if my pet gets any links (aggression from other monsters) while fighting a monster, it will turn between however many monsters are currently attacking and not focus on the one I ask it to fight. It's incredibly annoying and a good way for a Beastmaster to die when there's no need to.

If I tell my pet to fight "X" monster it should not turn to "Y" monster and "Z" monster at it's own will because they're attacking it, it should continue to fight "X" monster.

Maybe this can be fixed at some point. Hopefully it's looked into.

This is no glitch, it's something that bst pets have done since day one.
You may ask it to attack a specific monster but if it gets a crit or hit harder by another monster in the linkage, then it will go after that instead.

SMN on the other hand will ONLY attack whatever mob you asked it to fight and will even defend you after your avatar is defeated automatically after resummon when you have hate.

The real problem is how the mob I'm engaging can turn white because my pet decides to attack something else. I understand how I should only be able to claim one mob at a time. If I'm engaged in battle, that's the mob that should be claimed and stay claimed.

I can be attacking it with my axe but doesn't stop it from turning yellow in between each swing sometimes.
This is an old issue that has been with us for sometime.

to explain it, your pet works with the same hate list as any other wild monster. Once something gets higher on his hate list, it turns to face that target.

The only troublesome thing is, while being engaged to mob A, hitting mob A increases your hate towards it, however, being hit back reduces that hate a little again. Which inevitably means that your hate on Mob A is not going to climb as much or as high as the hate on mob B will be. Meaning it'll eventually turn given enough time.

If it's a jug pet, just strike mob A yourself a few times and Snarl so you give your pet a little extra hate towards the intended target. :)

Snarl shifts the hate list of the mob(s) you're fighting. That will help avoid the situation where Mob A starts hitting you instead of your pet, but it won't do anything about whether or not your pet shifts his attention to Mob B over Mob A.

S/E could add a new pet command named "Charge" or something similar that acts like a reverse provoke wich adds exrta hate on your pet towards the mob targeted with the command.

This really deserves addressing. It's one of my only real gripes about the job now that I've sorta seriously started trying to actually use it for stuff.

People might like the whole auto-attack-anything-that-aggros-the-player aspect of SMN pets (even though I really don't), but I can't think of anyone who actually enjoys BST pets behaving this way. Some beastmasters we all are.
