The last two updates have been accompanied by a ton of new zones, spells, job abilities and game mechanics. Those new things each has a unique name, and they are very popular right now (Trials of the Magian and Abyssea are now the center of the gameplay). However, there hasn't been any update in the Auto-translate function, and that has made life in Vana'Diel a little less easy.

Shouting for a Trial of The Magian group? you can't autotranslate neither {Trial} not {Trial of the Magian}. Sure, people has found ways around this, but still.

Looking for an Abyssea group? Good luck trying to specify you preferred zone(s), your number of availabe Traverser Stones, etc to Japanese players.

The autotranslate function has been always a really useful and necessary adition in a game with mixed servers like this. Don't abandon it or the experience will definitely suffer.

You can autotrans {Magian trial log}... if you have 240 or fewer temp/perma/claimslip key items total >_>

Unfortunately, the Abyssea expansions have also been introducing a whole crapload of new key items, and I'm finding it very hard to stay under that amount :/

{Moogle} {Quest} might work, but try telling a JP you need pet kills...

I might be mistaken, but Im fairly sure we're hitting a PS2 client limitation with this. Thus the less than 240 item/key item thing. And you know how reluctant they are to do anything that screws over people still running on that archaic client.

You're not mistaken. There almost certainly is a way around it though, much like how when they split the "Place Names" AT category into a "Place Names 2" category, or when they invented the Mog Satchel, etc...

They may not be able to completely fix the problem whilst restricted by LOLPS2 LIMITATIONS, but splitting temp/perma/claimslip key items into their own separate AT categories would at least be able to slap a band-aid on it for a while.

Also, regarding Abyssea, the name is almost directly transliterated (that is, JPs actually use the characters a/bi/se/a when referring to Abyssea). In other words, it would take a real boneheaded JP to *not* understand what you mean by saying "abyssea (Konschtat Highlands)" or "(Konschtat Highlands)[A]". Even if the JPs that play this game don't necessarily know how to speak/comprehend English, almost every one of them has at least some rudimentary knowledge of what the English language looks like. After all, mob/NPC names still are displayed in English as well, and our very own FFXI character names are created using English characters as well.

Just need to be a little clever with the autotrans for now. You know, like how (Fisherman) somehow became known as "puller".

I will say this though -- trying to incorporate Abyssea-Vunkerl into the autotrans is bothersome for right now. I can't just say "(Vunkerl Inlet [S])[A]"; it looks atrocious. For now, my friends and I have been referring to that place as VISA.

#7Wonder Gem rdmcandie, Posted: Oct 04 2010 at 9:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Its not the characters its the inflection of them, its the same reason mostof the auto translate is seen as rude to JP players, a lot of the literal English to JP translations don't always come across the way they are intended.
