Dear SE,

Now that you have your new toy (FFXIV), perhaps it would be time to get rid of the FFXI trial accounts so we can go without all these pesky gilsellers trying to get our attention. They werent used by the people they were intended for in the first place, but there was still a slight chance at it before. There's really no reason to keep the trials around now that FFXIV is out.

It's basicly a win/win situation for you now anyhow. If gilsellers want to send tells after you remove the trial accounts for FFXI, they'll have to buy and subscribe to the game again. Instantly get banned, and you made 12,95 plus whatever you made on the game and its codes itself.

Heck, they might even have to use their farming accounts now to send tells with, getting rid of even more of them. Lastly having to put so much work and money into it will most likely discourage them in the long run anyhow.

Lets work together to make FFXI more fun, fair and lacking gilsellers.

Yours truly,

Sir Surian Bedivere

Or instead of @#%^ing over legitimately curious newbies, they could actually tackle the spam issue. But nah, sending out thousands of tells in short periods of time is totally normal player behavior.

rate up. Seriously...when you can buy the ENTIRE collection (minus the new abyssea add-ons) now for only $10, what is the point in a free trial? How many times have you spent upwards of $30 for a game that you hated? It costs almost that much to drive down the street to rent a game from a local video store.....

I can do better than that. How about Ranger's Death Star Blast?

It's still a back asswards step to eliminate the trial when you consider most every other MMO today offers one. FFXI has historically gotten a lot of flak because it's "different" than WoW or whatever other flavor of the month MMO. Forcing people to pay $10, even if insignificant to some, isn't a way to endear possible new customers. People love free stuff.

Trials should only be able to return tells anyway. If they get a tell, they can reply. All other tells are blocked so you can't annoy random people.

Honestly, I didn't use tell as a new player, so I don't see why anyone else would need it. It was just older experienced people sending me tells that I answered to.

As I've brought up numerous times when this horrible subject has come up is that the issue lies in frequency of communication. Block tells and they'll just move to shouting in each area. Moreover, just because a person didn't feel a need to remotely communicate as a newbie doesn't mean others don't. Remember, the starter cities are practically ghost towns compared to the old days. When a newbie does learn of the search command, they'll have to track down that person if they wanted to initiate communication for help. Even then, said person could be in the MH or not even speak their language. Not good for the newbie who just wasted their time.

People just need to accept that we'll never be rid of RMT. Even when trial accounts were temporarily disabled during the merges, they just used accounts they'd jacked to send messages out. No single person legitimately sends out thousands of tells in short periods of time, let alone of the same message. We know SE keeps track of chat use with info they spit out during Adventurer Appreciation or whatever it is. Someone sends 30 tells in a minute? Flag them and spit an in-game warning to slow down (or better yet, type in complete sentences). Make this flag apply to any and all characters on an account with an undisclosed cooldown. If they persist, autojail and silence them. GMs can then fish out legit players or ban the bots and their IP (ranges).

So yeah, you may get a tell now and then even with the above, but stop acting like it's totally offensive and ruins your gameplay.

It would also help if they actually fixed the spam detector. It's utterly incapable of blocking homoglyphics like www.brogãme.çom >_< I reported that same message a dozen of times, including the fact that the filter is not working for those things, yet all I get back is a canned response telling me to turn on the filter >_<. It IS on.

You KNOW that wouldn't stop RMT. There are still alot of legit people playing the trial so it's not worth it. What they DO need to do is come up with a better fix than this ridiculous world filter system that gets updated like once every year.

Often, when SE makes a change to thwart gilsellers they end up hurting legit players as much or more than the RMT. This would be no different. They can't do away with every facet of the game that has the capacity for abuse nor should they try. I'm not sure we'd even have anything playable left if they did.

Unfortunately, there's always going to be some form of RMT. What SE and other MMO designers need to focus on is creating content where less people feel they "need" to take shortcuts to make progress. Whether FFXI or any other game does that successfully these days, I'll leave to others to argue over.

Easier fix is to just have trials unable to send tells, allow them to shout say ls and such. This keeps the option for a free demo open, while rendering the RMT to either joining a LS or treking to jeuno/wg to have any real way of getting their message out. I don't know about you but I am not going to invite ksdgfa into my LS.

Or they could just do what RMT trials in WoW do:

(lvl 1 dead dudes spelling the website lol counter productive to the MMO scene but creative none the less.)
