Think about the worst book you can imagine. The plot is boring and stuffed with long moments of filler content. The characters are completely unlikable, if not outright annoying. The protagonist is a total piece of ****. You aren't even halfway through and can't believe you're still reading page after page of this tripe. Now imagine this book is actually 23,389,200 pages long, and you are trapped in a small, dark room that you cannot leave until you're done reading the whole thing. You have no memory of anything from before you got there, and you're pretty sure whoever has trapped you there is just going to kill you when you're done anyway.

It's really more like a simulation. Nobody is real. They're all a bunch of AI bots designed to deceive you, and to make sure you adhere to the strict rules and limitations imposed upon you. If you pay attention, it's easy to see all of their predictable response patterns. They all follow very particular rules designed to keep you from ever being satisfied-- to steer you away from any sort of gratification-- while simultaneously leading you to believe you can be happy if you would only just play their game of making money and buying things. The game's environment is kept bland and generic to keep you from wandering too far. It's just the same bunch of roads and housing and commercial zoning copy-pasted for miles as far as you can see. You can never win. You have to keep finding ways to stay busy or the NPCs will put pressure on you, even threaten you. You can't skip ahead. The best you can do is just sleep as much as you can until it won't let you.

At my reading speed, that's 44.5 years with no sleep, or like 67 years with reasonable sleep.

**** it. I'll just pee on the book.

Sounds kinda like the novel I'm writing. Now I just need to figure out how to trap my readers in a small, dark room.
