Circle graphsFollow

#1 Jul 14 2014 at 10:21 PM Rating: Good
Hey!

I'm trying to find how to create a circular relationship graph, like the one Facebook used to do, that showed the relationships between people.

Something that looks like this: http://www.devenezia.com/downloads/sas/samples/schemaball-foo.png

A program that allowed us to create a list of people, put them into a circle shape and manually create links between themp would be awesome.

Thanks for anyone's help.

I'd be tempted to try that in InDesign first, there's probably an option to have a list follow a circle and beyond that it's simply connecting the dots.

How complicated are you looking to make it?

I mean I created this:Screenshotin like 30 seconds on here.

I haven't been able to find anything that you can just straight up load an array of data into and get what you're looking for automatically though. The 'circle graph' on the wikipedia page seems to have been generated with python and there are cmath tutorials online, but you'll have your work cut out for you it looks like. I also found similar images on the matplotlib site, but nothing that seemed to be exactly what you're hoping to make. There was a variety of polar and radar-style graphs that could probably be fiddled with to do it however.

Or maybe looking for R perhaps? Linky.

Best of luck.

Looks like a Spirograph. Those were fun in kindergarten.

In the end, I found a way to make exactly what I wanted using a program named yEd.

Thanks for the answers though.

How easy is it to work with?

Took me about 20 minutes to understand, but I managed to create a whole set of nodes, connect them as I wanted, then use the program to set them in a circular graph, showing links between everyone in about an hour after that.

You should do fine. :)

I was going to suggest MS word. It has a 'smart art' function now that I think would do that. But, it's word.

I was going to suggest an Spirograph. Just add names to the points on the outside of the circle.Smiley: schooled

Most people have moved over to the asylum since there's no difference between the visitors anyway.

Also, you're not helping by not posting.

That and google nerfed the asylum or something, further diminishing any lingering difference.
