H.R. Giger, known for the design of the alien from the Alien movies, a bunch of album covers (NSFW), his macabre interior design and every second tattoo or painted van died today.

Huffington Post article.

I don't normally care about famous people dying but this kinda sucks.

I always wanted him to work on a Hellraiser movie.

He designed Jonathan Davis' (KOЯN) microphone stand, which is actually very bland compared to his other work,

Pretty badass for a mic stand though.

Sad to lose him.

Giger was the biggest inspiration to one of my professional artist friends. He's devastated.

Huh. I thought he died in the early 90's.

That sucks. Very creative humanoid.

He had a thing for spines didn't he?

74 is a nice old age though, glad to see he at least lived a full life.

Spines, skulls, eyeless creatures and penises. Also Swatch watches.

It's like a Sesame Street list.

One of these things is not like the other; One of these things just doesn't belong!

Yeah, I don't know why but I always thought he was far older and had passed years ago. Not that I spend much of my day to day thinking about H.R. Giger.

It makes a lot more sense if you see what he did with the watches.

The second one still looks more like butter knives than watches.

He took something mundane like watches and turned it into the stuff of nightmares -- like butter knives!
