Get your invasion gear ready there's another planet to conquer, here's some info on it.

It's nice they finally found something earth-sized, especially since there was a paper that came out not too long ago that suggested that anything much bigger than Earth was likely destined to become a gas giant. Something like 1.2 earth masses or larger? I'd have to find it again, either way they were pretty pessimistic about these "super-earth" things. On the down side though, it is some 500 light years away, so the travel time will be a bit long. Also, it's just on the edge of where it would become tidally locked to the star, meaning one side gets to be way to hot and the other way too cold. So it might not be worth the trip in the end. That and it may well be an ice ball since it's nearer to the outer edge of the habitable zone for the star. All sorts of stuff like that. Still once you can find one that size more are sure to follow.

Yay for science. Smiley: yippee

You never count the world you've already conquered.

You forgot to mention the potentially deadly radiation from the star it's spinning around because it's a red dwarf.

Great, so if this global warming thing doesn't work out, we can try again on someone else's planet.

Exactly, and in this case this one could probably use a little global warming. Might be the perfect fit. Smiley: nod

But what if everything there has evolved specifically to kill Humans?

(Cause that's how evolution works. Fresh Prince said so.)

There's talk of subterranean life being much more widespread than previously thought due to core temps keeping water in liquid form underground and the radiation protection afforded by all of that earthy mass. I think a lot of that water would be locked up in crystal structures etc but I wouldn't be surprised to find some very intelligent worms somewhere.
