Thought Id see if anybody else has had a similar thing happen to them.

About 3 weeks ago I put GTA 5 for PS3 for sale on Ebay. I started the bids at .99 cents and at the end the auction was won by someone for $47 shipped.

Anyways the day he gets it I get a message demanding I issue a refund and that I had sent him a bootleg copy of the game. He said it locks his PS3 up and he wants a immediate refund. I don't know how he could find this to be a bootleg I bought it new from Gamestop played it a few times and put it up for sale. IT even has a special insert with a code that unlocks content in the game that I never used. The game was like new when I shipped it.

So he opened a case against me demanding a refund. I told him ID give him a refund but he has to send the game back to me in the condition I sent it to him (like new, complete, etc.). So a week ago he mailed it back with a tracking number and I am still waiting to get it. He has contacted ebay again and I am being told I have 48 hours to issue a refund or ebay will make a decision for me.

I don't know if this guy is trying to scam me or if it just isn't working on his system.. Something else I suspect is he found the game cheaper as several black friday ads had it for $35 brand new. I didn't take any picture of the game for the auction I just used the stock photo provided by ebay. He is sending me something in the mail but I wouldn't be surprised to find a CD-R in a cd case or a broken game or something along that lines.

His address was an APO address which I understand is for military personal? I get the feeling if he sends me a broken/fake disc back I am going to have no way to prove what he did and ebay will side with him and I will be out $47 and my game.

Does the tracking number show a package is actually on the way if you go and look it up? If so, when is it scheduled to get to you? If you are only a first time or under 10 time seller than ebay will almost certainly rule against you, and it will end with your ebay account and your paypal account locked sometimes. You may be better off in the long run issuing the refund if the item will not get to you in time, then reporting the fraud to ebay if you get a cheap crap copy back from the guy (be prepared to show your reciept and payment info for that sale) and then call whichever base it is that the package is coming from, and complain about the guy trying to scam you until you get his commanding officer or the parent of the kid who ordered it. That should do the trick.

But yeah, you're probably about to learn a $47 life lesson.

Also may want to provide the gamestop receipt as well. That may prove to Ebay that it wasnt a bootleg copy if you get back a CDR disk. Take a picture of what he mails you back also, maybe a little video of you opening it. Just a few thoughts I had reading it. I dont know much about the policies of selling on ebay(as i dont have a sellers acct) so i wont guess at those Smiley: smile I hope you dont get ripped off bro.

This reminds me of something I saw on youtube the other day. It however ended with the seller creating a Craig's List add for the ebay buyer who basically did the same thing as described in the OP.

I would contact ebay to let them know what is going on, and inform them you are waiting for the return of the game before you refund anything. For all you know, you re about to get scammed.

It is stuff like this that has kept me from ever using ebay -.-

My son had a very similar experience. He was also selling some console game on Ebay. He ended up refunding the money for a game that worked fine and also ate the shipping and listing fees. Ebay will nearly always come down on the side of the buyer.

I had a friend once return a PS2 game to a Sunco, I think it was a Sunco, and instead of the game disc it was a waffle. He shrink wrapped the packaging and used a fake name when he bought it and had returned it with the receipt so they had no reason to check. I thought it was the funniest thing but I'm sure there's a kid out there that had a really lousy Christmas.

I've used ebay a fair amount and never had any problems. I've actually gotten some really nice deals and sold some stuff for well more than I ever would have expected.

I've had more issues with stuff purchased through Amazon.

Normally I keep receipts but this time we didn't. I do plan on video recording the whole process of opening the package up. He has something in the mail coming to me but I don't know what. I really expect to find something crazy like a cd-r or perhaps a completely ruined copy of the game that he had to begin with or something. I have a high feedback on Ebay over 500 with no negatives. The thing is this guy has almost the same amount of time on ebay that I have (about 12 years). MAybe it just didn't work on his system if thats the case then NP. I have heard GTA5 eats up every resource the PS3 has to offer.

I ended up getting the game back in good shape and it seems to work fine. He still claims it was bootleg and that he bought another one and that it works fine. I figure either he bought it cheaper elsewhere or one of the patches didn't download right causing him problems.

I have seen a lot of those auctions for just a picture of a hard to find game system I don't think they should even be allowed to post auctions like that. Sure people should read the descriptions a little better but the sellers know good and well what they are trying to do.
