My partner is. He plays with headphones on, but I get to hear the acoustic sounds the electric guitar makes. Two months in, and his acoustic sounds have gotten really pretty. They improved out of sight after he did many rounds of "Harmonic Heist" and "The Temple of Bends" technical challenges.

I can't believe how far he's progressed in just two months. He had an advantage going in, he knows piano, so he knew about the names of notes and how they relate. But knowing the theory and being able to play the set up of a guitar are two way different things. He's playing 2-3 hours an evening (Say hooray for Asperger's habitual ...habits) so that's helped him progress of course. It's just so nice listening to the bell-like notes he produces, compared to the scratchy ones of 2 months ago. He can actually play chords, and move rapidly in between strings, which he couldn't do if his life depended on it, the first fortnight in.

Someday Trombone players will be welcome in cool rock bands not named after cities beginning with "C"!

I plan on making a guitar eventually. that's about the limit of my guitar playing ambitions. Maybe a string bass someday, since I read bass clef.

I'm sure there's a wacky metalband somewhere using trombones, and I'm sure some prog bands have used trombones (alongside every other instrument in the known universe).

I taught myself guitar while deployed which kind of sucked because of how obvious it was my instructor didn't know what he was doing.

My son plays it, not enough to get any good but he tries. I tried with the full intention of becoming a rock star but the guitar is the wrong hand for me so my dreams have been crushed.

There's lefty guitars too. Or you can just flip the strings and play a right handed guitar as a lefty (which does require some modification).

You wouldn't be in bad company either with Hendrix, McCartney, Kurt Cobain, Iggy Pop and Tony Iommi to name a few.

Oh I know but that all requires effort..and time...or money. None of which are available in great amounts with the new baby around. I'll probably jump back into it down the road but it's just a cool but unnecessary thing to be able to do for me so not a priority.

I'm not saying you should, just that you can. I don't know how hard it is to modify a right hand guitar to left hand but from the 30 seconds of googling I did it doesn't look too complicated.

It's easy, just flip the chords. You end up with some knobs in odd places but it works fine. Problem is I'd have to switch back and forth for my son and I and while easy it is rather time consuming and puts some wear and tear on the guitar and chords each time.

I found myself wondering last night if they'll ever do a piano/keyboard version. I've been wanting to re-learn for years(not that I was all that good to begin with), but never got around to it.
