They could stand to get merged, so maybe before too long we can get a single job forum, but as Kao said, maybe if/when we consolidate some of the XIV class/job ones.

They are where they are and that's all that they are...

Not sure this one is even possible to answer:

Top 5 members in the last year, in respects to rating a total # of different people up?

(Basically who are the painters of wide-spread cheer)

Edit:

The above was answered 5 minutes later... impressive.

Thinking back I should of asked "How much widespread rating up has the most dedicated to this poster done?".... at least then it would have met the privacy filter as it were.

Thanks for this thread, it's been a good read.

Did you ever see that movie about the soccer players in the jet that crashed on top of a mountain in Peru? And you were wondering about why there weren't many admins about? Well, there's your answer!

No idea who the non admin ones would be, and even if I did know, that falls under the "if they wanted to tell you, they would tell you" clause. On the admin side, given the amount of karma adjusting we do in a year, it's probably 1. Me 2. Me 3. Me 4. Me 5. Me. On the top admin downrater side it's probably 1. Me 2. Me 3. Me 4. Me 5. Fleven.

Ours can be especially frustrating, because it's not Mediawiki, it's our own ZAM wiki. And on the forums barely works at all. What are you trying to do?

What ever happened to Jeff (Allakhazam) after he sold the site? Did he just take his money and run? I assume that because this is no longer the heyday of the ZAM network, this isn't exactly a money making site like it used to be and he has to be laughing his *** off now at the absurd cash he received for a once popular site.

Well, whenever I'm standing on the bridge of the Enterprise, I get a red alert each time a post is reported. So I arm my photon torpedoes and just blast away until it's gone.

...I wish that's what happened anyway :(

In truth we get the same bar pop up at the top of the page that one does when a PM has been received.

What Vlor said. Any admin can see and handle reported posts. Truth is, unless it's something blatantly obvious like advertising gold spammers, I tend to leave it for Kao.

When the site was origionally sold, the new owners kept Jeff Moyer on as site director, with full control. As a side note, all of the staff who worked for Allakhazam's Magical realm at that time recieved a rather sizeable bonus, issued by Mr. Moyer at that time from the proceeds of the sale, which is one of the coolest things ever to have happened in the history of the universe. Anyways, eventually the new owners decided to bring in their own people, and there were some disagreements and whatnot, so eventually Mr. Moyer parted ways with the new Zam.com. His exit was most likely covered by some sort of non compete agreement, which I am probably not at liberty to discus or speculate about further.

And the site does still make money. Not so much as it did before, but there is some there. Costs are lower too though for various reasons which include lower staff salaries. /shrug. I thought about starting my own splinter forum once, but there wouldn't have been a draw for it. I had a good name for it picked out and everythign though!

Jeff didn't exactly run off... Illia got fired, and Jeff left in protest. Plus the sale was only between 7 and 10 million.

Here was his last words on it:

Quote:
As all of you probably know by now, today is my last day here. I don't want to go into my reasons for leaving. All I can say is that I felt I was left with little choice but to go. Ten years of my life has been poured into this site. In many ways it is an extension of me. Leaving it behind is extremely hard to do.

I want to thank the Allakhazam community for everything you have done for me and for this site over the years. When my mother died, you helped me through my grief. When we adopted our daughter, you shared my happiness. I've spent nearly a quarter of my life here and it has shaped me as much as any other experience I have had.

I wish the new management nothing but success. You guys deserve nothing less.

Thank you again.

Edit: Kao has a better insight, but mine just comes from what he said publicly about it all.

No power for 4.5 days as the temperature slipped below 0F? The house stayed above 50F for the first two days, then a neighbor and my husband jury-rigged our boiler to run off the neighbor's generator. Viola, no frozen pipes! Also no lights but we had hot water. So we cooked light meals on a Coleman two-burner stove, had big meals out, played Uno, and spent at least one hour hanging at the local deli charging up our devices each day.

How did we survive offline? Hubby missed a whole weekend of World of Tanks and I'm WAY behind on the EQII xpak new content. But we kept up on Facebook....

Had more important concerns as the temperatures slipped below 0F. Also, we only have like 6 hours of daylight here right now. Andm y oldest kid and I have been sick. So there.

Alright, fine. I will tentatively accept this excuse this time but you only get to use it this once.

I don't think he ever gave a public sum for the sale but I could be wrong. Still, I assume he was making decent cash off the site while times were good plus the buy-out plus the additional year as president. Assuming he worked with a good financial adviser, you could go on that for a while before you needed to start filling out job applications.

His LinkedIn profile shows his work at ZAM as his last entry which would lead me to believe he's been leading the early retirement lifestyle. Most people I know who are out of work and trying to get back into a field at least have some "consulting" thing going on so they don't look unemployed. He was also an attorney so it's not as though he'd have to wait for MMORPG sites to become fashionable again.

The sale price comes off the wiki page for Allakhazam. They don't have a source for that number, however. So I apologize if that is incorrect.

No I won't divulge the actual number, but I can confirm those numbers are not accurate, though they are close. As to any future plans, all I can say is don't count him done yet.

I like my theory that involves half a peruvian soccer team being eaten better though! I had a whole backstory worked out with moose assault teams and the return of an escaped cloned wolly mammoth and everything!
