Edit: And quick update to the most recent date topic on this thread. I found out the reason she hadn't been responding is that "I've been wondering a lot of things lately. Like for one: Are you a Christian?"
The real question: Is her asking that a deal breaker?

No. But my answer was...for her.

For her you'll answer or for her you'll be a Christian?

Meaning my answer of "I don't know what I am" was a problem for her. As a result, we are no longer speaking.

Well if you not being Christian is a deal breaker for her then you're probably better off without her. Aside from not getting laid anyway.

Oh we've had plenty of sex :) She's one of those...."I live like everyone else, but if you don't profess the same thing I do, you're inferior" people.

Whatever no harm no foul

The proper answer there was "I was raised Lutheran". Lutheranism being the vanilla of Christianity and "was raised" giving you latitude to outwardly embrace/ignore the faith to meet the needs of the other party.

Write it down for next time.

Saying that you're Catholic is a great excuse for ignoring anything about religion that takes effort. Some protestants will look at you as though you sprouted horns when you say it, though.

Well, that's just it. "Catholic" carries baggage. No one cares about Lutherans. Plus, being Catholic takes way more effort than being Lutheran.

I'm with you on the baggage, but I'm not so sure "being Catholic" takes more effort that "being Lutheran". Maybe more than "was raised Lutheran", though.

I mean, it's one of those things where you can go to church less often than VGCats is updated and still be considered a fairly regular member.

That would be essentially every mainstream Christian denomination. I mean, sure, there's towns or neighborhoods where you might get called out for not showing up but, again, there's neighborhoods where you'll be called out for not attending Mass.

Purely anecdotal, but I'd disagree. Lutherans are incredibly dull people, but stereotypically industrious. Doing work for the church was considered just as important as doing the work of the church. My church had a lot of work days, and while some of it charitable work a good portion was just cleaning and maintaining the church. Made our own stain glass window, did our own roofing, and after I left the congregation built a new wing. Then there were the meetings. I there's anything those people could claim to love more than a god it was bureaucracy.

Prairie Home Companion's jokes about Lutherans seem to be in the same direction: boring, hardworking people.

Purely anecdotal but I'd disagree with your anecdote. I've known plenty of Lutherans and not a one did actual labor at the church.

Well, only so much more to say about your Christian ex-girlfriend.

My mum's parish is full of aristocratic Lutheran church politics.

It's like "no, you're too poor for our congregation, we're gonna bully you".

If she slept with you, she's clearly not that concerned about being smote down by her god. Calling on differences in spiritual belief is like an easy way to dump a guy.

Just sayin'

This, unless she was seeking a possible serious relationship.
