I always wake up just before it goes off. Last night I forgot the turn it on before falling asleep (first time I've ever done that) and I woke up two minutes after the usual time. I'm a relatively light sleeper. And I usually end up waking up three or four times between 3am and 6am. Hasn't really been an issue, don't know why. I usually go to bed around midnight, so maybe I don't get enough sleep (4-6 hours a day)... seems odd that that would make me wake up earlier/easier.

How about you guys?

It takes a small thermonuclear detonation to wake me up usually. I like to stay up late, and sleep in late. Always have. I apperently throw things when they go off though. Including alarm clocks, and I'm told, shoes.

I definitely get into patterns. I know that when I'm setting my alarm and getting up right away, then I tend to not always need it. If I've gotten into the habit of hitting snooze, then it gets worse.

I always set my alarm though, because I don't always wake up

I'm horrible about going to bed at the same time, so I set my alarm. Then I set a backup alarm, because I've been late before due to turning off my alarm in my sleep.

I tend to wake up 20-30 minutes before my alarm most days and just get up out of bed. On the odd occasion I don't set my alarm, worst case scenario is sleeping 10-20minutes late.

I tend to sleep through my alarms, or accidentally turn them off without waking up. I can't into mornings.

No matter how tired I get, or how drunk I get, or even prescription sleeping pills, I just can't stay asleep past 0530.

You can thank your Drill Sergeant for that.

That's a weird thing to name his kid.

Maybe, but it's completely appropriate.

Mornings are the scariest time of the day. People say it's nights but they're wrong, it's the morning you have to fear for then come the responsibilities and the work.

I haven't needed an alarm clock regularly in years. The only times my alarm ever actually wakes me up is if I went to bed super drunk, super late, or both. I get myself out of bed at 5:30 ± 15 minutes every day. The alarm clock is set for 6:45 just in case, but I haven't actually needed it in quite some time. Even in the cases when I go to bed drunk or late, I am usually up before the alarm anyway.

I'm light sensitive. On summer days I want to sleep in, I need to have blackout curtains over the windows. On winter days when I need to wait up, I use a special "sunrise" alarm clock that gradually gets light and starts with birds chirping for fifteen minutes before the actual alarm goes off.

One of my cousins had the same issue. He'd turn off his alarm in his sleep. So he set up a backup alarm. But then he started turning that off in his sleep as well. He then set up a third alarm that was super loud and placed at the far side of the room. That was the only way he could ensure he'd actually get out of bed. I think a few times he still dropped back into bed and fell asleep after turning that one off, but at that point, it's not the alarms anymore.
