They were really good.

So what should I stick in the next batch of taiyaki? ( I'll probably be eating it for the next few days as I'm stuck feeding myself and I don't want to go to the store to buy other food >.>) I'm thinking nutella, or maybe crunchy peanut butter Smiley: drool

Peanut Butter and Bananas

I have no idea what is in taiyaki. I always assumed some fermented bean paste or other strange Asian cuisine.

Sweet bean paste. That is what the above had in it.
I'll for sure try a peanut butter one, sadly I can't stomach the smell or taste of bananas :x

I tried the whole peanut butter and banana thing once. Just spread between two buttered pieces of bread and fried. It was not bad, just very sweet. Almost sickeningly sweet. You know, one of those things that taste good, but you know you'd never be able to eat more than one...

So are those things just two pieces of bread filled with something and smashed in one of those sandwich press grill things? Like these things but with fish shaped cavities? Cause as a kid, we had one of those and made pizza pockets with them all the time.

I basically made a fish shaped waffle stuffed with sweet red bean bast. This is what my pan looks like. I then put in a good table spoons worth of the paste right in the middle, with a little mix (waffle mix. I used a Bisquick waffle recipe) to cover it, and then squeeze the pans together and let it cook until it was the dark-golden brown color (I for some reason like foods slightly burnt).

So are you going for something sweet then? What about fudge?

You can get a cheap one on Amazon for less than $25, or one that looks to be of better quality for around $40, iirc.

I bought this one. It was not made in Japan, and only has Korean directions (because it is Korean made :p).

I'm thinking a nutella one for sure. Maybe some fried chicken strips and syrup for Chicken 'n Waffle style.

Add beef. The answer is always beef, except when it's bacon.

Berries and clotted cream dolloped on top (or cream cheese or whipped cream or yogurt). Strawberries are just coming into season, but really frozen berries would work fine if well-strained.

Nutella and banana sounds pretty good though.

pesto, goat cheese and greek olives

pepperoni, mozzarella, mushrooms and pizza sauce

There is just no end to the combo's one could create.

We've always had these pudgy pies for camping or, more recently, when we just have bonfires out back. You can fill them with most anything.

I like the fish molds though. They'd be fun for just plain pancakes. Are there other shapes?

I do not know. Taiyaki is a (usually) sweet street food found in Japan. Korea has it's own version called Bungeoppang.

Google images did show what looked like Human shaped and a Lobster shaped mold, but no idea where to buy.

Ok so..

Peanut Butter was kind of meh. It was ok, but I won't eat it again.

Nutella was freaking awesome. I even went a step further and added a little syrup on it.

So tomorrow I'll see what else I can try in it. I'm thinking of using the mold as an omelette mold..yea...egg, cheese and sausage all fish shaped...

Ya, I think peanut butter as a filling would need to be mixed with powdered sugar and a bit of vanilla to make it not so thick and overpowering.

And of course then, you just get rid of the doughy outside and dip them in melted chocolate...

Not sure how it would cook. The peanut butter turned into a gooey mess when I took a bite, I'm assuming jelly would just add to the mess. I'll give it a shot lol

I'm thinking bacon in it is sure to be a win. It will just be like pancake with bacon in the middle..w/e that is called? I don't like pancakes, I don't know proper pancake/bacon name.
