What is everyone up to today? Cook outs with family? My parents are cooking out this evening and I will be in attendance. There will probably be drinking, fighting, fires and/or explosions. Just good family fun time.

My most sincere thanks to all of our active duty, vets, friends, and family of military personnel. You fighting for our freedoms past, present, and future is the reason we get to stuff our faces and get drunk today. Thank you.

I posted in the Asylum Memorial day thread, but I'll +1 here

Friday my dog and I headed out to Fargo first to my friends, then drove up to the lakeside property that her parents own outside of Park Rapids, MN. It's a luxurious area, with only a few vehicles ever passing by (mainly the people who live 1/2 mile away). Her parents bought the place in 1995 and are having thier log cabin built this summer, so it was actually our last chance to have a huge camping party out there as well.

My dogs wildlife capture status is still 0.

I was a little chagrined about the media coverage. It seems Memorial Day is now all about dead Vet's (as is Veteran's day).

I picked a big bouquet of lilacs from some strangers yard in honor of my mom. They were her favorite flowers. I needed to think about her.

Party for three hundred-ish people was fun. Game of football against a 6ft 6, 550+ lbs guy who works as a professional bouncer not so much. Did have ******** karaoke though. I think I was legally dead for twenty-three seconds, whether it was because of the bacon double cheeseburgers or becoming a permanent imprint in the park is still up for debate. Spent the last three hours going through tons of new emails (yay must be close to summer break), scheduling ammo pick ups and overall scheduling and planning. I want the weekend back already.

I thought Memorial Day was always about dead vets (hence: Memorial) and Veterans Day was for all who served.

Veteran's Day is for all the Black Knights that made it through the war.

Technically, yeah. Mostly it's about sales and an excuse to party. A moment of silence out of respect, then be loud enough to raise the dead so they can party with us as my CO puts it.

Yes. It is. I had thought it was about memorializing dead people in general. Isn't it the day that people put flowers on graves all over the land?

I was just scolded at the lunch table for my erroneous musings. Smiley: glare

Some people do, some don't. Most people I know, myself included, go during the individual's birthday or other significant days and not just some day gussied up to appear important by someone 150 years ago. Crappy day if you're on Funeral Honors, though. No holiday pay, no holiday, no overtime. Just being dressed up to the nines working all day to put flags on graves in the heat.
