This is driving me nuts; please help!

Pre-1980
Long-haired hippie (with guitar?) sitting on desert floor which looks cracked, like a dry lake bed
Rear of album is same thing taken from behind
I think it was a solo project while dude was between bands

Anybody?

70's introspective folkish rock...I think

I owned the thing in the late 70's but dont really remember listening to it. Some conversation at work triggered the memory of the cover, and my co-worker remebers it, but we are stymied at who the artist was.

My friend though whoever it was was a member of Traffic and/or Buffalo Springfield but my ardent GIS-fu has not produced the cover art.Smiley: frown

Well ****, I was sure I had it. Long hair, cracked desert, '77 release, compilation album so more likely to be something you hadn't listened to (much), folk rock, well known so it's likely others would remember it as well and although not between bands he was part of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young not long before. Edit: He was also a member of Buffalo Springfield.

Hey, all that happened 10 years or more before I was born, my knowledge of 70's music isn't that impressive.

Yeah, as far as singer/songwriters from the 70's go I don't know much beyond Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Harry Nillson...

After looking at his bio and discography I really wish I'd held onto that album.

Boring backstory:

It's 1978 and I'm spending most of the summer (along with cousins and brothers) assisting my aunt in the construction of yet another house in the Black Hills. On one partucular day after putting down 3874287584758 square feet of padding (prior to carpeting) she said I could have any albums out of a selection of 60(?) that her daughters no longer wanted.

I took: Ten Years After, Ten Wheel Drive, ARS, a couple Beatles, Chad & Jeremy, Queen (NoTW), Iron Butterfly (In-na-gadda-da-vida) the above Mr. Phillips and many others. I had no interest in the Jackson 5 so those went in the trash. In retrosepct they might have been collector's items now. Ah, well.

Wow, they really had a meme going back then didn't they?

My commiserations on the Jackson 5 record. In retrospect, anyone who threw out all their record albums and record players once they got their CDs and CD players should be kicking themselves now. Anyone else noticing old telephones from the 70s and 80s turning up in music videos these days?

I'm just glad that my dad kept all his records, even if he has some albums three or four times over now (because special re-release, LP, CD, DVD...)
I've found more than a few really good bands in there I wouldn't otherwise have known.

There's a whole lotta crap that i've trashed, sold, given away or simply lost track of over the decades that would now be valuable to collectors.

Baggage weighs ya down.

And half the reason it is worth money now is because so many other people threw it away or broke it as well.

I have about fifty albums, mostly from the 70s. I have them stored on the top shelf of a closet in my garage. I should get them down and check their condition. At the time I always recorded my albums to cassette and then put the album away, so they should be in excellent shape.

My tastes have always been pretty eclectic, I have Ravel's Bolero, Black Sabbath's We Sold Our Souls for Rock and Roll, Carole King's Tapestry, and everything in between other than Bible and Country (although I do have the Allman Brothers' Eat a Peach). Oh, and no Jackson Five.

Yeah. I was pretty picky about who I gave my LP's to. Hopefully the various recipients have listened some and held them or passed them on with some reverence.

I trashed a lot of barbie dolls though.

Allman Brothers were never Country.

Yeah, well, I listen to BOTH kinds of music, country and western!

And in all seriousness, the Shawn Phillips record Bijou turned out to be looking for is growing on me, it's really pretty good and I like the guy's voice.
