That may be the case. I know Heinz (the most common ketchup brand in the states, at least in the south) is definitely sweeter than other brands, and what I think of when I think ketchup. A more regular tomato flavor would go quite well with grilled cheese, though I feel just sticking with tomato soup would be sufficient.

This. Just make a bowl of tomato soup, and then you've got all the yummy dipping you need. It's just the right flavor combination IMO.
