I just got reminded that a week ago, two states in Australia, about 1000 miles apart, had tornadoes go through them. Big Ole' classic tree-ripping, house destroying tornadoes. Do you know how many tornadoes we had here before that? Zip. Nada. Zilch. Oh, we do Cyclones/Hurricanes a plenty up north. But tornadoes? Uh uh.

What we DID do was Willi Willies, which are Dust Devils with an Aboriginal etymological derivative. A Willi Willi is generally a few feet across, and is to a tornado what a cute little house kitten is next to a tiger. But last week: TORNADOES. Hell no Sister. Not classy. Not done. Waaaay out of line. Someone needs to call the police and pay for the breakages and dry cleaning bill.

It's a sign that God hates Australia.

Seems that Tornado Alley expanded quite a bit.

Edit: Wrong nickname.

I'm assuming you forced them to spin in the opposite direction down there too. Smiley: disappointed

I've been scared of tornadoes ever since I was in 4th grade and one knocked down the tree in our front yard. The tornado didn't touch down, but the sirens were screaming (towns in Georgia always have sirens) and my best friend and I were huddled in the shower of the bathroom that had no windows with a blanket over our heads for almost an hour. That sucked. The adults were outside the shower, similarly with blankets. The power was out. Since the tornado didn't actually touch down, it just tore things up around the neighborhood and blew away some trailers about a mile away and knocked the power out for the rest of the night.

Huh. Around here, the sirens are your cue to go outside and try and see if you can spot a tornado.

Thought you'd change the weather
Start a little storm, make a little rain
But I'm gonna do one better, hide the sun until you pray
I'm a tornado looking for a soul to take

That only works during the daytime.
