Don't even need to be anywhere near a harbor really, lots of populated areas right next to land. Sneaking up on the US would be tricky, but sneaking into range of South Korea? Not difficult at all.

I thought we were assuming a US target here though. I mean, there's no need for all that if they just want to hit South Korea. They presumably have missiles capable of hitting targets there (even with a nuclear bomb) directly. I thought were were talking about alternatives to ICBMs capable of hitting the US. That's a non-issue if we're talking about hitting SK, or even Japan.

Thats an easy one. Physical hardline from the bomb to an external antenna / cell phone. And if you can build the infrastructure to produce a functional nuclear weapon, you can probably figure out a simple remote relay switch. One would hope anyways.

Sure. Of course, the contents of your shipping crate are looking more and more obviously like a bomb at that point, but I'll grant that there are certainly ways to do this.

North Korea probably wouldn't try that, and they probably wouldn't try it on us, but against South Korea, who knows. And North Korea is about as zany as they come these days. Who knew Kim Jungle was the stable sane one of the family???

Yeah. I guess my point is that if they're crazy enough to actually do this in the first place (as opposed to just threaten in the hopes of goodies), I have a feeling they wont be doing it so sneakily. They'll just fire their rockets/missiles/whatever. I'm just thinking that it's egomania that would be driving this sort of thing in the first place, and he'd want the world to know it was him doing it, so why not just do it overtly and ensure that he nukes what he wants nuked instead of leaving anything up to chance?
