My Daughters birthday is on St. Patrick's Day so this year she actually gets her party on her birthday, I just don't know if I should stay sober so I can remember her 7th year of present opening. Or if I should get **** drunk to honor my ancestors.. well the non-Arab ones... and be able to put up with my nephews who are the devils children.

Start drinking early at a steady pace. Then get ******** when she goes to sleep.

Get sloppy drunk, spill some beer on her cake, then pass-out on the couch with your hand stuck down your pants snoring loudly.

She'll always be daddy's girl.

I think you should probably hold off on the drinking around her at least. She's seven so I'm sure you can get her party out of the way early and then go celebrate St. Patty's day afterwords.

Then again I could just be speaking from my own inner child who really got fed up of seeing his father drink all the time.

Serve rum cake.

This actually is a serious reply. The alcohol evaporates so all you're really left with is the taste, so it's the best of both worlds.

Drink fancy beer until she's asleep, by then your tastebuds will be out for the night as well and you can start drinking whatever cheap swill you have around to get sloppy drunk off.

Where's the party held?

Go some place else to wear out the kids (think like one of those chuck-e-cheese kinds of places that are everywhere now), then park yours in front of some new electronic thingy when you get home. If it goes right she'll be so tired she'll get totally zoned into it, and with no mess to clean up you can spend the evening making up for lost time.

Why go to that next step?

Because if you want to get drunk it's kind of a waste to only drink craft beer. After a while you won't really taste much anymore anyway.

That's when you just hit the hard stuff. Some brandy and 7up, and you're happy in no time.

Would seem pretty selfish to make your daughter celebrate her birthday on a day other than her actual birthday to ensure you can drink for St. Patty's Day, don't you think? :D

Hell, have her drink... then you can have both a St. Pattys celebration and her birthday. Make a green cake.

I'd say I'm holding it a day early so I don't ruin her birthday party. Nobody like it when daddy pukes in the pool.

Whatever you do, don't participate in green beer. Whoever thought of that should be punched in the ****.

Our house, We have a large play room for the kids, we usually have the party at the house because 1. cheaper 2... cheaper... I normally setup my way too many video game systems to the tv's and monitors in the room so the kids can play what they want, Some of the adults that show up end up playing games too purely for memories as kids since I still have all my systems working from my atari and after. Plus we have a large backyard and a huge swingset so the kids can get tired out there, HOPEFULLY it doesnt decide to snow well into march, but if it does the kids can go sledding too.

My daughter has seen me drinking but I drink 1-2 beers max when I do and don't drink all that often, I honestly wont have more than 5-6 beers over the whole day, she knows beer is for adults.

Actually thats for my birthday, my daughter doesn't like the taste of rum cake.

I agree completely on this. To stick with the irish theme we picked up some Killian's Irish Red and Guinness.

You should teach the kids early about St Patrick's day anyway. I suppose you can bend the rules a bit with birthday cake, but it should be corned beef and cabbage. Then some more corned beef and cabbage. And some soda bread, and some more soda bread. And Jameson's, start mixed in coffee with heavy cream, then just kinda drink it straight later on. Beer should really not be involved at all, even (or especially depending on what Irish you're hanging with) Guinness. Oh. And black and tans are right out.

Get her used to this ritual now, and it wont be like a surprise to her later. Just kinda something that's done at that time of year.

I jokingly told my wife I was going to make Corned Beef and Cabbage, she told me with no with the anger only a spanish woman can muster. Her family is Cuban so almost every party ends up with pulled pork, black beans/rice, garbanzo soup and whatever guava pastries they decided to bring. We are going to settle somewhere in the middle and order pizza.

Tell her she needs to be more accepting of multiculturalism or something. Well made corned beef and cabbage is freaking delicious! Admittedly, poorly made it's bland as hell. Honestly, Cuban food is more subtle in flavor as it is (as opposed to other more spicy Latin fare). I suspect she'd actually enjoy the spices of a good corned beef if she were exposed to it. Sadly, making it right is an art form that's increasingly being lost. A wrong that really ought to be righted.
