I found a 25 year old savings bond today in my name. It was only a 50 dollar bond, apparently my parents got it with some proof of purchase mail ins to a diaper company when I was a baby.

Only 5 years away from full maturity, worth about 85 dollars right now.

I have saving bongs I won through art classes and stuff back in high school.
I don't think I ever get to actually cash them in...ever. Best way to reward people!

That's some amazing rate of return right there!

0$ to 85$ in 25 years not sure exactly what it'll be after the full 30. I'd try to find out what the rate of return on that investment is, but I'm afraid I'd create a black hole.

Government website says it's earning 4.00%

I was going off the whole "it's a $50 bond, and 25 years later it's worth $85!" bit. Injecting other facts (like how much your parents may have actually paid for it) kinda ruins the joke. You joke ruiner you!

Let's just hope that:
A. the United States doesn't go bankrupt before it matures.
B. You can still find it when its mature.
C. You can remember that you have it yet.
D. You survive till its mature.

I received a 25 dollar one from work last year. I have no clue where it's at now!

In my experience, savings bonds are a favorite gift of many grandparents to their grandchildren. Usually, a single bond suffices for such a gift.

Remember the old SimCity 2k where you started with no money but a 50k bond?

Tough times. But it all paid off when you got that llama tower.

I got loads of savings bonds when I was a baby/toddler from grandparents and aunts and uncles. They basically bought me a computer and my books for college.

Holy crap, I just remembered that when hubby and I got married, I set up an allotment for his military pay to buy a bond every month and we continued that after he retired from the Navy. I need to check our Treasury Direct account and see what's in there.

I had a couple of $25 and $50 bonds given to me when I was a baby, I was disappointed when I cashed them out, I don't even remember what I bought with the money, I am sure it was something that either sucked or was drank away.
