What's a good alternative to Itunes? I have an Ipod so it'll have to be able to sync that easily and I really do like the artist layout in Itunes so I wouldn't want to lose that and the taskbar is nice as well but itunes doesn't play FLAC which sucks, badly.

Unfortunately, most alternatives I've found just show music in one big retarded list which makes it a royal pain in the **** to scroll through and find something I feel like listening to (which is what I do most times) and I like seeing the artwork up front the way itunes does it. So ideally I want itunes but without the memory hog and with the ability to play FLAC and whatever other (lossless or not) audiofile I throw at it.

Yes because when I want to listen to music I'm perfectly happy to listen to DJ's who think they are hilarious make "fun" joke calls to "celebrities" nobody ever heard of alternated by hideously annoying advertisement and, if you're lucky, about 1 song every 20 minutes.

No seriously, my dad had the radio on when I was in the car with him and in the entire 25 minute drive they played 1 song. One @#%^ing song. And it sucked.

Edit: Oh, and click the artist layout link in the OP, how many of those bands have you heard on the radio lately? Bon Jovi maybe, perhaps AC/DC, The Beatles or Deep Purple on a classic rock station but Bigelf? Arch Enemy? Diamond Head? Camel?

This isn't the case with any of the radio stations I listen to but I agree that radio probably isn't the solution if you want to hear specific songs on demand.

Wouldn't it be easier to just convert the FLAC files into whatever?

If you're worried about losing the quality, you can convert the FLAC into ALAC, which is Apple Lossless Codec.

Flea has one of those. She also has a Sony brand car stereo that you can slide an mp3 player into and control it via the radio's dashboard controls.

It's actually made for iPods and you need a special adapter for it to work with the Walkman. I got a chuckle out of that.

She got me a car stereo for Christmas and the major bells and whistles only work with iPhone/iPod products (I have an old Sansa brand player). But it'll also read off a USB flash drive so I bought a 16gb drive for $10 and we'll see how that works. I'm really a "Hit shuffle and drive" sort of music listener anyway.

I guess I'll just do this. Still means I'm stuck with the memory hog but whatever.

MediaMonkey gold has always been my standard bearer as far as music library software goes. It doesn't have any integrated store features - it's a media library organizer and player, that's it. It has STELLAR organizational features and album art management, and with the release of 4.07, it has built in support for iOS 6, though I found it to be a tad buggy with a new iPod 5th gen. I suspect the kinks will be worked out in short order.

MediaMonkey can play and support MP3, AAC (M4A), OGG, WMA, FLAC, MPC, WAV, CDA, AVI, MP4, OGV, MPEG, WMV, M3U, PLS, and others. It doesn't have the cover art carousel that iTunes is well known for, but the album art listing is easy to use, I think.

Also, the auto organization feature (the sole reason I bought the Gold version) kicks so much **** compared to anything else on the market, it's silly.

http://imgur.com/Ynac2

It also has great auto tagging and volume leveling support, including both manual volume leveling and real-time playback leveling, both of which work very well, IMO. If you're looking for an alternative to iTunes, especially if you're an iPod/iPad owner, MM is definitely worth a try.

Looks pretty good. I actually want what you showed and not the carrousel, just showing artists instead of albums (because I have a bunch of discographies that encompass some 40-50 albums each) but I assume that's possible as well.

The automatic organization however would be useless to me since that's already how all my music is sorted anyway. Aspergers has it's useful sides...

Or, you can just combine them into one and get this instead
