Even if she came forward, that doesn't always mean folks will believe her. Even with a conviction, there's no guarantee that many people won't assume he's still innocent.

Based on the OP, it sounds like she's hearing a lot of folks talk about "what a great guy he was", which probably is bringing up a lot of old feelings and memories. Seems perfectly logical to me that it's tearing her up inside hearing that.
