The Belgian secret service was embarrassed by people who are easy on the internet to find. Through a simple search example, the term "Staatsveiligheid" (State Security) as the secret service in Belgium is called, the staff can be found on social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn. Belgian media report.

The staff report on their profile that they work or have worked for State Security. The top of the intelligence service is concerned.

"Russian and Chinese intelligence services have thousands of people. They have the manpower and time to search for such profiles and its information to the outside. Our people are by their presence on the sites the target of hostilities" , says a top executive in Belgian media.

The department is considering banning people have a profile on social networking sites, but fears that the unions do not agree.

I mean, seriously. Who is dumb enough to state on your @#%^ing Facebook profile that you work for the secret service of your country? Really!?

Well it looks good on the resume, and some employers do check Facebook/Google+ profiles now before hiring.

Well, when the little box asks for your employer, you feel bad leaving it blank.

Someone has to work for the agency. It would look suspicious if there were NO fb pages of people that worked for a large federal agency.

Belgium should make a bunch of facebook accounts of fake people and check off that they work for the secret service.

Just to tell you "How Dumb" people are with facebook? Had a manager at work that had one rather poor work ethic. (Called in a lot and always abandoned her post to not deal with the youth) She bragged about it on Facebook. The last straw in her career at work was when she called in on her Anniversary and then bragged about it on her facebook page. I laughed so hard when at least a half a dozen co-workers tired of her **** printed out her facebook pages and took them to the director who promptly fired her ass!

I suppose there's also a difference between "Sweeps the floors/Works the Cafeteria/Answers the front desk phone" for Super Secret Agency vs "Deep undercover spy".

Deep undercover spies tend to work these jobs too, mostly in other country's agencies.

I'm not entirely sure how to respond to this. I tend to post as little as possible on social networking sites just to avoid any kind of trouble. I'm Facebook friends with about 20-30 of my co-workers and I'm terrified something I post on FB will get back to the bigwigs. Not everybody has those same qualms, however.

I am not friends on FB with anyone I currently work with. Past coworkers, even some past managers and supervisors? Sure, why not.

I also only post glowing awesome things about my current job.

I don't think it looks particularly well if you said how you were a spy on an internet site that is anything but hard to get info from.
