First, I would like to thank everyone who has served before me, paving the path for today.

Second, I would like to officially make this my favorite holiday. Today, I went to Chili's, Red Lobster, Applebees, Hooters, Olive Garden and Lolittle Ceaser. Tomorrow, will be even more and better menus. Oh, and I got a free car wash. :)

Thank you America!

Instead of going to restaurants for free meals you should be going to Vegas for free hookers.

Voiding the hooker part, the price of the transportation to go there heavily outweighs the outcome.

Can't you take a Hops to Nellis? That should save you a bunch of cash, well if the flight is available.

Hops are best used if you live near an installation that flies to where you want to go to. Also, more than 4 days just in case you can't get on a flight.

Thank a Veteran for your freedom and the liberties you enjoy. Many soldiers fought and died for them.

I had my wisdom teeth taken out on Friday and have been unable to eat solid foods all weekend. Looking forward to getting a nice steak this week when I can chew properly again. Too bad it won't be free.

Where's this free car wash thing now? Folks already hit up Applebees and Olive Garden and seemed pretty satisfied with life. I however get to work today, so bleh on life.

Well, where I'm at, it's just a local (I think) car wash, but from the advertisements, it's common among car washes everywhere.. A lot of places aren't advertising either. So, I would call and ask. I just came back from TGIF and O'Charlies... I'm going to Outback later for Dinner.

You were going to take the steak to Gbaji for proper critiquing?

There's nothing creepy about going to another man's home to show him your meat.

I get that being a veteran of a war is a big deal, and I commend those men and women who are brave enough to step onto a killing field.

That having been said...

I don't quite get why they are the only ones who are revered and given free meals. There are other professions that are just as important to our country, but they don't get sh*t.

They get meals because restaurants like to give service to those who have served.

I am in no way suggesting they don't deserve it. I am only suggesting they are not the only ones who deserve it.

They're probably not the only ones to get it, either. Around here, there are a number of places that give a huge discount, or even free food, to on-duty police officers(on any day of the year). I wouldn't be surprised if others do the same for firefighters, paramedics and perhaps even other such professions.

Yea, I don't get why the military gets revered and the police despised.

I know the NYPD and the one FDNY guy I work with get discounts and free meals all the time while they're in uniform, so at best Veteran's Day is more pandering to civilians to show how the businesses "really care" for veterans to drum up more business for themselves.

Quick point of order: I'm sure Applebee's makes a great steak.

And yeah, I'm sure it's more about making the rest of the potential customers feel good about the restaurant. It's no different than handing out coupons but likely has an even greater positive PR effect.

I know for a fact that on-duty cops get free food and discounts all of the time. That was the biggest complaint when I worked at McDonalds. We only had a 50% discount during work and they got any meal free, except the mighty wings, which was 50% off. Of course, we didn't pay anyway, but the principle of it all.

That's EVERYDAY, so I don't feel bad for having one day out of the year.
