He, like a certain conservative, is a contrarian. However, unlike said certain conservative, he's simply not very good at it.

If you believe that I'm a conservative, then you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

This thread wasn't even about me... Why does anyone even care which side that I'm on anyway?

I already know that answer

What's with Chick Fil A creating these fake FaceBook profiles and posting "heartwarming" stories about what their local CFA did while they were there? And why do my "friends" on FaceBook keep falling for this ****?

Chick-fil-A will no longer donate money to anti-gay groups or discuss hot-button political issues after an executive’s controversial comments this summer landed the fast-food chain in the middle of the gay marriage debate.

Executives agreed in recent meetings to stop funding groups opposed to same-sex unions, including Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage, according to Chicago Alderman Proco Joe Moreno.
[...]
A report from LGBT advocacy group Equality Matters found that from 2003 to 2009, Chick-fil-A donated more than $3 million to Christian groups that oppose homosexuality. In 2010, the fast-food company gave nearly $2 million to such causes, according to the report.

But on Wednesday, Moreno said the chain sent him a letter saying that its nonprofit WinShape Foundations arm “is now taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping, and in that process, will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas.” Moreno wouldn’t release the full contents of the letter.

Chick-fil-A also agreed to amend an official company document to reflect that its “intent is not to engage in political or social debates,” Moreno said.

Happily, they found a new cause....

Sounds like the Chicago Alderman found a way to save face for himself without publicly having to back out of a position that would end out being a violation of the 1st amendment. Good for him, I suppose.

Sure, the way was for CFA to stop donating $5 million to those causes.

Except it appears to be exactly what I stated above. Shocking that a politician who's stuck his neck out might have a need to fudge the facts in order to weasel out of the untenable position he's taken on this issue.

Just to clarify, it looks like the Alderman is interpreting statements about workplace discrimination (which CFA has never engaged in) to mean that CFA will not engage in donations to groups opposed to gay marriage. I personally suspect he's doing this deliberately to save face, and it's why my initial assumption was that this was precisely what had happened when I read the first linked article. The lack of any actual quote from CFA was the first clue.

It appears that I was correct.
