TFW I'm too busy with other things to have played a MMORPG in nearly 2 years...

My lucky number is either 118, 211 or 1,022,121. I'm not sure.

The mirror of 73, the 21st prime number, 37, is the 12th prime number. The number 21 includes factors 7 and 3. Seventy-three in binary, 1001001, is a palindrome. In addition, of the 7 binary digits representing 73, there are 3 ones. Smiley: grin

So Nila's comment reminded me of how prime numbers are all over the Qur'an, I tried googling it only to come across a lot of websites saying that 2012 is the coming of Imam Mehdi / second coming of Jesus (as).

(The first chapter of the Qur'an - Surah Al-Fatiha - does have 7 verses, 29 words and 139 letters, all prime numbers, and 729139 and 139297 are also both prime numbers. I think that's cool.)

Since the current year (1433H) is also a prime number with some significance, people reason that means Jesus... apparently.

My lucky number is seven.

Dunno why, always has been. Not that I ever use it for anything. I mean, when are you supposed to use your lucky number? Am I supposed to get it tattooed on my *** or something? How does the number bring me luck?

Gaah! another survey? I want one where we get paid for taking it!
On average it seems we get one a week here.

Acutally, it was my original intent to offer a chance at a pre-paid game card. Unfortunately, that was not permitted due to university policy. Smiley: disappointed

181/1,111 today. Tell your friends! Smiley: nod

If the internet is to be believed, Hulk Hogan and Bobby Hill was the mastermind behind it.

Hello Gamers! My name is Michele Marvel and I am a doctoral student at Walden University. I would like to invite you to participate in a research study that is designed to explore player characteristics, motivation, and participation in MMORPGs. The goal of this research is to provide information that will help educators and game creators to design effective virtual worlds that may be useful in higher education. If you are 18 or older and currently play MMORPGs (like World of Warcraft, Everquest II, Second Life, or Rift) please consider participating in this study.

To participate, all you need to do is to complete an online survey about your personality, gaming habits, and motivation to play MMORPGs. There are a few demographic questions as well. The entire survey should take about 15-20 minutes of your time. All survey responses will be kept confidential and you will not be asked to provide any identifying information as a part of this survey.

If you have any questions about this research project, please do not hesitate to contact me, Michele Marvel, at michele.marvel@waldenu.edu. You may also contact my dissertation committee chair, Dr. Hedy Dexter, at hedy.dexter@waldenu.edu.

Here is the link to the survey:

Best Wishes!
Michele Marvel

Ok, so you are "attending" an online University and pursuing a Doctorate in what field of study? How is this valuable to educators?
How does "player characteristics, motivation, and participation " correlate to "game creators to design effective virtual worlds that may be useful in higher education"?

I expect better from a Doctoral student. You should consider narrowing down your information because you are going to come off sounding like a putz. I can't imagine seeing this at a SWPA or APA poster session.

My suggestion is to focus on something more specific. "I want people to learn better through video games" is lame, and too broad. Learn what? Pick something: social skills, math, English, spelling, history - you can even break down social skills in to parts

Also, you forgot to state that the participants can withdraw their information at any time. Kao may have allowed this to slip past, but you won't be able to publish nor present if you aren't adhering to your IRB.

My lucky number is purple.

Also, I took the survey because my neighbors stopped launching massive fireworks that kept going off low to the ground, and managed to not set anything on fire, so I had nothing better to do.

Only 2 weeks left, and things are going well. I do appreciate the help that I have received from everyone here on the Zam.com forum Smiley: smile.

For anyone who is wondering, this is an IRB-approved study. All documents and survey questions have been approved by my university. Nick Yee has also authorized the use of the player motivation items from Yee (2007) in this study.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks for participating!

post your irb. your word = nothing. Get in to the habit of doing this. it doesn't matter who you have supporting your research because if one "hair" is out of place you won't be able to publish nor present.
