I don't have a way to answer this question without either lying or intentionally being a jerk, so I'll just keep quiet.

Just head over to the Asylum for a few days, and just read the posts. You'll see that this is the norm here.

A quick look at MY history here shows an abundance of down-rates and shut the **** ups early on, too. It's just part of the dynamic here.

Post something interesting.
Do something different.
Lurk more.

Don't ever judge yourself based off of your interactions with people on an internet forum. It's not healthy. Especially the OOT/Asylum ones. That being said, your present posting style is going to lead to some challenges ahead if you continue down that path. I'm going to be brutally honest here, so please don't take offense. People here don't necessarily hate you (Except for the Forum Jerks, but they hate everyone) but you do sometimes come off as being rather new to the whole forum posting thing. Right or wrong, the regulars sense that you haven't picked up the pulse of the forum, and they view that as an annoyance. The same kind of posting you tend to do is often how people make "sockpuppet" or "ratebot" secondary accounts, and many of the people here are suspicious of you right out of the gate for that reason. It's very, very rare for a new poster to start making new threads right away. it's certanly not unheard of, but the vast majority of people A. start in one of the game forums and migrate over to OOT / Asylum later in their career, or B. make their entrance via replying to threads and work their way up to making new posts. Don't get me wrong, new posts are good, being new content and all. but it's not the usual path, and that makes people suspicious.

Then there is the content of your posts. If I had to guess, I'd say you are probably younger than most of the OOT posters based off what I have read so far. Some of that is writing style (and I know I am the LAST one on the planet to ever say anything against anyone on spelling), some of that is content. Survey posts are good, but they need to be taken in moderation, and be of interest to your target audiance in some manner. Often times your posts will get hijacked into some other thread topic, and thats not necesarily bad. The whole point of the enterprise is to start a conversation and let it grow. Some people do that by trolling, or posting controversial posts / threads etc. to try and get people riled up. Some people do it by picking on the new guy because thats what they had to go through when they started. Some people just post random news clips all the time, some people ask questions. We have the political set, the ones who like to discuss entertainment, the gamer set (in a gaming forum? shocking!) and of course the random bad pun admin set. There are many different approaches to interact with a forum, and if you ask, people are usually prepared to give advice.
Some of them will try and coach you as you go, some of them will try and get rid of you, but in the end, you're the new guy and you have to decide how you want to or even if you want to interact with the forum. The strongest position you can possibly take is "I'm here and I have a right to be here, so I'm going to post whatever the hell I want and damn the concequinces". But it takes a very strong persona to pull that off, and I don't advise it to start. Most people have better luck starting from the sidelines, replying to posts, feeling out what they bring to the forum, what interests them, what annoys them, and plan their interactions that way. People like to talk about themselves. Ask them questions about their posts. People like to argue. Pick a topic under discussion and take a contrary point just to be difficult. or ask the people arguing wy they feel the way they do about something (just never ask Gbaji unless you have a few hours).

Looking at your posts in general, the ones where you are interacting with people about upcoming games or new releases that you were interested in, or have an oppinion are the posts where you seem to be genuinley interacting and not "trying too hard". Some of your other posts can tend to read like an attempt to increase post count for no apperent reason. Some of it is how you phrase your questions in the Wow forum. Those same questions, worded differently and more diffidantly might have gone over better. They might not have. My best advise is to try different things, figure out what works and what doesn't , and remember it never hurts to ask one fo the admins for advise if you are unsure and don't want to ask publicly about potentially posting something.

Hope that helps.

Pretty much. When you post stuff like that, you come off as whiny and insecure. And you wonder why people don't like you? If you want people to like you, the first step is to stop acting like you want people to like you. That doesn't mean be a jerk, just be yourself. I know that at your age, that this can be difficult to accomplish, because you don't really know who you are yet, but just act/post in the way that is most comfortable for you. Just stop trying so hard. That is the #1 thing that annoys me the most about you. I'd also suggest not asking stupid questions, but you probably can't help that...

Other than that... what Kao said. You need to grow some thicker skin, because no matter where you go or what you do in life, there are going to be people who don't like you. Get used to it.

If it makes you feel better, homework, I get down-rated pretty much whenever I set foot outside the World of Warcraft forums, and I used to be a regular poster here (one of the first).

That said, the OOT wasn't always like this. I remember when it was all about ***** and giggles. This was after the OOT revival, before many of the current regulars became regulars. Today the forum has a sort of hierarchy and a theme. If you're new and do something that does not match the theme, you become troll bait instantly. Unless you're well-versed in how to handle being baited, you're doomed from the moment you decide to respond to it.

My advice would be to take everything with a grain of salt. People here can be total douche bags, but most of the time they're only being so because they want to bait you into responding to it (like you're doing now). Trust me, I've been there, though in another forum, and it only gets worse if you don't ignore it.

The thing is, the Out of Topic forum isn't just the Out of Topic forum anymore. It's become something more, or something else. It's like a sandbox where people who've known each other for a relatively long time come to hang out and do their social thing. Compare it to a real life club where all the members used to be strangers, but ended up being friends. You're new to the club and you're doing stuff that goes against the usual behavior in the club.

This is your initiation. This is where you'll either bend to the unwritten social rules, or break.

Good luck. Smiley: popcorn

I've also had a fair amount of alcohol in the last five years, so I don't know what Pepperidge Farm is a reference to.
