So, I hear this is coming to US tv. I just want to say this is the best slow mo train wreck I've ever seen.
This show is advertised as being an examination of love in a multicultural world. How does a relationship go when the in-laws may have radically different expectations, cultural norms and religions? But as this short series goes on, you realise that this is a BIG FAT LIE that John Saffran has sold to the TV station. Now, to be fair, there is often method is John Saffran's madness. He has been a comedian of biting observation, and a slyly hilarious documenter, for a long while on Australian television. He has a lot of cred with the media and audiences here. Which he freely burns in a lengthy, thorough, geographically global televised trip into the darkness of his own greatest personal regret.
I don't know weather the intro to this show is actually what he intended to create at the outset of this project, and his subconscious hijacked it while he was filming, or whether he hijacked funding with a good sales pitch, in order to make what he really wanted to make from the get go. However this was made, it's the best documentary I've ever seen about nothing about what the documentary is about.
