I saw someone on another website using the "smoking girl with dyed hair, leather aviator cap and goggles" avatar Mindel used to have, and for an instant just assumed it was her.
Kaain had a Veruca Salt avatar when I first started posting here, and I assumed he was a spoiled brat for awhile.
Ari used to conjure a nebulous zen image in my mind, then I heard her speak and saw a picture of her. Now she's an attractive nebulous zen image with a wistful voice.

Is it just me, or did people used to change avatars a lot more frequently? I feel like the current crop has been around for a while.

Sure, you COULD change an avatar, but why if you already have the awsomest one ever!
(technically mine actually does change slightly every few years. I need to update it again anyways, the X is out of date now.)
