A man in a blue jacket crouched, lighting a firecracker on a manhole. The children stuck their fingers in their ears.

What happened next was caught on a security camera. It can only be described as unbelievable.

Gas in the drainage system unexpected caught fire, causing an explosion that sent the 44-pound manhole several stories into the air, before hitting the side of a building.

The man's jacket, not his arm, was blown clean off, and he was lifted up, landing over six feet away from the blast. His arm is visible as he falls out of frame.

The incident occurred on Jan. 29 in China's Hunan Province. This clip was broadcasted on Japan's TV Asahi evening news.

According to TV Asahi, the man suffered burns to his face, but thankfully, neither of the children was injured.

This is like watching Nintendo's Manhole Game & Watch gone very, very wrong. Glad to hear the kids are okay and hopefully the father will make a full and speedy recovery.

That reminded me of a video that I saw once of a foreign bomb disarmament gone wrong. Did a quick search and couldn't find it online, unfortunately.

Anyway, this guy in the full, Hurt-Locker style bomb disarming gear was leaning over the edge of some small rock wall...a well, or something like that, IIRC (but who puts a bomb in a well?). It detonated while he was working on it, and what you see is a honest-to-goodness, literal, column of fire shoot straight out of the well's opening, covering up the upper half of the guy.

As it rushes past, he sort of just tilts and falls over, arms still outstretched in front of him, blackened and smoking like you'd see in a cartoon.

He survived it, I believe, but I think it took him like 6 years to make a recovery.

Oh god, it's so wrong, but I laughed so much at the image I got from your description of him falling over. (Maybe the bomb landed in there from a plane?)
