It's weird seeing a house without a basement.

Basements are actually pretty uncommon in newer construction, I think. Most of the new houses are built on slab, or built into a hill to have a half walled, half buried basement that opens onto the underside of a deck. Slab is faster, cheaper, and less likely to have a sinking foundation.

Points 1 and 3 are irrelevant as to why most houses are built on slabs nowadays.

In Texas houses actually don't have basements because the ground is ******. Depending on the area, you generally have either shifty clay soil, or just solid rock beneath you. Basements can be done, but they're expensive and you could be dealing with leaks and other stuff for the lifetime of the house, which only ramps up the price more.

Most of the time houses just don't bother with them, and you really only see basements in a corporate building or something, where it's generally just parking.

ALSO: Water tables. If they are very high you will have an increase in cost on basements due to higher waterproofing needs.

IIRC, Tailmon is near Brazoria and I'm told by those who live there that the water table is very close to the surface in many places.

The wiring people also paid the home a visit and put in all the wires for the surround sound in the rooms. They might not be easy to see but they are the Grey wires.

Living room the marks are on the studs and the wires are wired to some of the boxes.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/ImGatomon/Livingroomwiring.jpg

The back speakers will be mounted in the ceiling. Note the nice recessed center in the room. This is the bedroom. The living room also has a recessed ceiling.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/ImGatomon/Bedroomwiring.jpg

The office. I had the wiring done for outlets for standing rear speakers.

I forgot that I also ordered the speakers for the bedroom ceiling.

Not quite as uber as my living room setup but they should be up to the task.

With the exception of some paint on the trim and the pillars for the porches. The electrical boxes and water faucets being installed. And the Air conducting and its base the outside is pretty much done. I do plan to use the extra left over bricks to make the outer edges of plant boxes at the front of the home.

Today I went to Austin and visited Ashley Furniture and spent 1300+ on furniture. They had a sale on bedroom set and living room for 799.00 each. I bought the living room set outright. Then I worked a deal for the bedroom set and I'm paying it off in installments. The living room set has couch, love seat, recliner, 2 end tables and coffee table. The bedroom set has Bed, mattress, box-spring, 2 night stands, dresser and mirror. For now the delivery date is April 1st.
I'm really excited and cant wait to sit in my new living room!

The days of rain kind of put things on hold at the new homestead. I checked out the home today and the drywallers were putting
up the ceiling. They should have all the walls done tomorrow. Taping and floating might be a bit because it's supposed to rain again
tomorrow late.

Bedroom where ceiling 5.1 speaker will be installed.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/ImGatomon/dwalBR.jpg

Other side of room.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/ImGatomon/dwallbr.jpg

Living room as they worked.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/ImGatomon/dwalLR.jpg

I found it pretty interesting watching them. They had a large version of a Dremel tool they used to cut out the lights and Air ducts
after measuring and marking on the drywall. It only took them moments to cut the holes.

It's been a while since I updated this thread. Things have slowly progressed upon the home. Ever since my builder had heart surgery its been one thing here and another there.
Here are pictures of the floor in the home.

My Poor little Honda died a few weeks back. 400k miles and the timing belt broke. It took out the cylinder head. Cost way more to fix than it was worth. I ended up having a friend take me to Houston and I came back home with this!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/ImGatomon/NewTruck.jpg

It's a 2005 with 67k miles and just about every bell and whistle you can imagine. Vent shades, running boards, Trailer towing package. I'm still looking for the kitchen sink! Its a nice ride and sadly people now think I'm and Aggie!

Well,
With what I wanted to spend and what was on the lot. The Tundra was by far the best car/truck on the lot in my price range. Also, I'm moving much closer to work and the mileage will not be an issue.

Ignore him Tailmon. He's only behaving that way because he's jealous of the fact that roads here are large enough for a truck that size to fit on.

Roads in Denmark aren't really that small, they're huuuge compared to the UK.

Roads in Pakistan are ridiculously spacey and still filled to breaking point (I guess Pakistan is pretty much like, say, Mexico, really, in most ways). Smiley: grin
(At least in the "outside world", in here they're mostly empty no matter what the time of day is.)

I'm guessing the main problem with a car like that in Europe would be that it uses way too much petrol.
