In about ten minutes I will be emailed the most terrifying final exam I have ever taken in my life. Three hours of SQL, XML, database modeling, and other scary things.

Then I just have to whip up a quick android app for the other class and I'm done for the semester.

Any other OOT students out there in finals hell/misery right now?

In the meantime, back to desperately cramming XML into my head.

I had finals the week of Thanksgiving, just finishing the first week of my new term today (Online, year round schooling). My Database Management class was easy, my Project management class was a nightmare.

Yes. Oh god, yes.

I had two papers due yesterday, and a paper due today. On Thursday, I have an intensive research paper due (which I haven't even started). On the 19th, I have a Metaphysics paper due, as well as a take-home final.

My last final starts at 8PM on the 22nd.

I have no clue when I'm getting my Christmas shopping done.

My Technology and Humanities final opens up tonight and I still need to finish my Network Operating Systems final.

I've also got 3 chapters of review questions to finish which will get done tonight, barring my wife nagging me to death tonight (it's one of those days....)

Knocked out my English essay (easy) on Friday, took my PreCal exam on Saturday, then was exempt from my Astronomy exam, so I went home and am hanging out here until my History essay is due online and I have to go back for my Theater Appreciation exam on Thursday. Then I'm done.

4 exams, with a 5 day break in between. Freshman year is easy.

I miss freshman year. Such a light workload and you don't need to worry about your future for a good 3 years at least.

We don't have 'finals' in December, but I guess I had to do a podcast?

That took an amount of effort greater than none.

<.<;; Freshman year for me was two semesters of physics, a semester of chemistry, calc 1 and 2, an introductory ese class with lab, and another introductory ese class with an **** teacher who failed over half the class. Also lolwrtiting101. Relatively, it was a light workload I guess. Last year I pulled so many all nighters I lost count, was up for 50 hours at point point, and got 8 hours of sleep in total the last week of classes. (With 3-4 of those being on the last day.)

As for this semester, I've had a test or something due all the time within the next 2-3 days for past 2 months. Just took my easiest final (moonspeak) today. Tomorrow is my final for advanced programming in unix/c (should be medium). Friday is my final for embedded systems design, going to be my hardest I'm guessing. Monday is a final for Integrated Electroncs, which will be almost as hard. I also have a group(2ppl total) project for that class due at the final that we haven't had a chance to start yet. And then on the last day of finals, Tuesday, I have a final for classical mythology because loldecclasses.

There is when your prof expects you to make databases out of it.

Actually, I didn't even get to the XML portion of our final, and neither did the majority of the class, due to use forgetting that our free trial of Oxygen was only thirty days. Smiley: laugh

Yeah I did 4. Packet tracer itself is fine. It's the way its graded that gets me. There may be 10 different ways to fix the network but if you don't do it the way they expect you lose marks. I think one person in my class passed that portion. Which is annoying since I got the system to work.

I've never understood this need to cram. Either you know it or you don't. There shouldn't be any need beyond a simple review, unless you were simply **** the pooch all year long. If you're cramming then you're just filling your head to regurgitate it and will forget it all later on in which case you've just wasted a semester and your money.

The problem with the XML was the program we were using never quite worked right in class, so it entailed a lot of memorization of stuff written down in a PDF, in the hopes that it could be recreated in the XML program when the time came. Nope.

Didn't have to cram the SQL stuff or any of the theory, just review the slides in case there was anything I forgot about.

Oh I know the feeling of intense accomplishment when you go to grade your packet tracer and it says 100% and all those green check marks fall into place. I tried the four year route in IT for two and a half years and it was not for me, when I started at my tech school I learned more in one semester with hands on training than I did in the time spent pouring through books and rarely touching any networking equipment.

I remember beating my head against one of the labs dealing with static routes for what seemed like days, lucky for me my professor isn't a huge **** and gives us credit if he knows we've tried every possible option to solve the problem and can't figure it out. Some of his most wonderful quotes are as follows, my buddies and I call them Randyisms.

"Document everything, even if it means you have to strap a video camera to your head while taking apart a computer."

After I asked him if he had a spare power supply for a dell laptop. "Here's a hammer and **** driver lets break open your power supply and see why it isn't working."

During our schools lockdown drill "Someone grab me a monitor if anyone comes in here I'm taking him out."

The first time the pc maintenance class had to make straight through cables "Some of you have done this before, some of you haven't. I'm probably going to laugh at watching you make these the first time."

Epic teacher is epic.

I've got a semester's worth of proteins and enzymatic mechanisms and pathways to memorize. I can remember the general mechanisms to the pathways just fine, but it takes a fair amount of cramming to remember all 300+ proteins involved.

The best part is you get out of school, get a job, and only care about a single pathway the rest of your career. Smiley: lol

Anyway, I'm with Ugly. I never crammed. Finals were generally a restful week. A couple hours of review to make sure I understood everything was as much as I ever did. Concentrated on getting enough rest and such.

The last week of the semester was usually worse for then than finals week. That's when I'd have all these semester-long projects coming due, and when I tended to pull the all-nighters. Hated that week. Smiley: mad

This has been my experience as well. Unfortunately, I'm just getting ready to go back to school after having been in the corporate world for the last 6 years, so I'm worried I'll have lost my magic academic touch that was carefully honed through my formative years (I was one of those "never does anything in class, but still gets A's" types), and that my work ethic has been destroyed by years of office work drudgery.

Also, I still have this dream fairly regularly. Smiley: frown

I had one on Friday (should've aced it), one on Tuesday (flunked the last question, but might still get into the highest mark band which would put me at more than twice the marks I need for a pass), got one in 13 hours which I still need to revise for a wee bit, and got a terrifying one on Friday which I also still need to revise for - I've got a revision buddy and a postgrad specialising in that stuff who offered to help, so it should go okay. I still need to remind myself that I only need a bit over half the marks to pass with honours...

Finished yesterday. No clue on grades.

Once that was done, I had to spend the afternoon doing Arts & Crafts to make presents for my office.

(They're getting little wooden IT diagnostic dice. No clue why the thing isn't working? Roll the dice! It'll either tell you "Reboot it", "Reinstall it", "Ask Google", "HDD Crashed", "Check Plug", or my favorite, "It's dead, Jim." Total cost for 15 dice - $21. Hand made with love.)

I think I smell an etsy business I need to get into.

you mentioning etsy reminded me of regretsy.com

Now I'm never going to get to study for tomorrow's final.

I completed my last final today and I graduate with my B.S. in Criminology this weekend =) weeee

Looking forward to arresting those naughty criminals aren't you? :D

Just finished my ESE380-Embedded Microprocessor Systems Design final today and felt good about it. Made some stupid mistakes but I'm still hoping for a good grade. Still have my ESE330-Integrated Electronics final on monday with a group project and a silly classical mythology final on tuesday.

Then only three more semesters to go for me. ESE300, ESE345(Computer Architecture), ESE/CSE346(Computer Communications), ESE/CSE360(Network Security Engineering), ESE382(Digital Design using VHDL and PLDs), ESE440/ESE441(Senior Design Project), CSE306(Operating Systems), and a couple of generic DEC classes. I might end up taking another moon class, or some extra upper level cse/ese classes that are interesting if I have free space.
