They added it in sometime in the last year. I don't know the reason why. Maybe cause people wanted more stars?

IIRC, the last big forum update we did standardized how some things looked and behaved. I think standardizing the stars (and letting there be more of them) was a part of that. I normally stay out of the design-/visuals-related sides (being a colourblind minimalist and all,) but I think that's what it was.

In the beginning, there was the void. a great vast nothingness, filed with the absense of any MMO's except for Legend of the red dragon which was more a BBS thing so it really didn't count.
